Hey guys, I need to replace my fuel pump. Already got the part ordered… Now I just need to know how to do it! Haha, talk about unprepared.. I saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NrLnE-6lU8

But that's for a Z32, not sure if it's really that different at all, if anything, can someone link me a tutorial, or tell me how to change out the fuel pump? Thanks!

You will need to drop your tank. I recommend you download the manuals for this. There should be plenty of topics here on the forum as well.

Do I actually have to drop the tank? Am I not just able to pull the current fuel pump assembly out through the access hole in the back?

The access hole is only for the fuel level sender unit, there is no access hole for the pump, unless you cut one.

By the way, would you recommend cutting a hole for it? Like using a nibbler and cutting the hole?

People will give you criticism for cutting a hole.

But its your car, do what you want.

I cut a hole in mine.

Yeah I'm not worried bout criticism haha, especially considering no one's ever really going to see the access hole xD But I'm wondering how I can find the exact location of the pump

Open the access panel to the sender and look to it's side, you'll be able to see the top of the fuel pump assembly.

Google "z31 fuel pump access hole" found Butters car.

It wont save you any time actually. lol! I have done both and always prefer to drop the tank as its easier to get to all the hoses. You can do it either way as it is your car but, I speak more from experience than criticism of cutting up your car.

The reason I recommend against cutting a hole yourself is if you do not do the job properly it will lead to more problems you don't want and it will not save much time if any. But if you take your time when cutting and do not cause any further damage you still must protect the bare metal you just exposed so it does not rust. Then you need to make shure you get the cut out sealed properly for noise and leak issues after all you do not want to smell like exhaust after every time you drive the car.

But if done properly there are no negative effects or problems with cutting the hole

I've done this three times with no ill effect. Just take paint the edges and a careful cut. I used hinges on the last one to make a door and trimmed the edge with rubber hose as shown only smaller. Doing this is a matter of opinion and clearly not everyone agrees.

If done correctly I think this is an awesome mod.

I always wondered why Nissan didn't put one there to begin with.
