I was just reading an article that MotoIQ did back in the day about building a VG30E for a pathfinder, using a VG33E block and piston from the VH45DE. The mention in one of the captions they say that Nissan rings are chrome and require a fine surface finish (600 grit). Most of the engines (Toyota) I've built all use steel rings in the cast iron block.

Does anyone know if the OEM Nissan rings are chrome and if so, are you guys using chrome in your rebuilds or switching to steel or moly or something else?
