It's not practical

It's not necessary

It requires cutting the hood

I've gained access to fuel injection components w/o removal of upper intake

Removable as a single piece

No i didn't consider volume

It's sweet as hell :OO3

Your glory is dampened by your choice of organic hood-prop.

nanan?re

j/k..Frickin sweet man, nice workmanship.

z-flash: (2011-04-14 18:48:57)

Nice work!

Got any pics with the hood shut to show the needed cutting?

roastin300: (2011-04-14 18:50:30)

lol: :lol: Like nothing I have seen before. Looks pretty cool man! And neat choice to use an intercooler endtank :lol: Respond back with your impressions on how it performs! Good work.

88sinZ: (2011-04-14 19:59:50)

You say organic, i say "going green!"

No pics of the hood yet, i just picked it up today.. it might be a bit until i get to that

Endtank is just a few letters away from Intake :-) it's been pretty straight forward to piece it together, there's two 3/8NPT bungs at the rear for vac reference, one dedicated to the brake booster and another to the possible vacuum block, i might be able to reference two vacuum ports on the TB if all works out and not have to worry about a block

onefast87: (2011-04-14 22:40:49)

Looks Good to me, wich throttle body did you go with? Looks like a Q45.

SATAN: (2011-04-14 22:56:11)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

It looks like a Q45 because the plenum is so SMALL! :nanan?re

On a side note, isn't there one more bolt that you have to get to on the front of the intake manifold? Can you still get to it?

BLOZ UP: (2011-04-14 23:23:26)

Meh, that one's not needed. It's optional--like some of the head bolts I couldn't find for my build.

sprtcrazy17: (2011-04-15 00:05:08)

Looks cool. Curious why you didn't consider volume?

88sinZ: (2011-04-15 00:42:34)

SATAN, I know you produce Q45 TB intakes, do you have any suggestions about the TPS? See "specs" about the forward most bolt ( i used an exhaust stud, M8x1.25)

Q45 90/85mm throttle body. Have to figure out TPS, and from search results.. Locate a 240SX throttle cable, than mount a throttle cable bracket, finish the cold side IC piping w/P60 MAFS to TB

I didn't consider volume 'cuz fuuu that, as long as it cranks and fires.. that's my mind set right now. Also, the smaller volume should help with sensitivity from the large TB, even if the linkages are stepped it should help smooth the low end out and improve high end flow.

Got a few other things thrown on my plate right now, so the projects going on hold until further notice, at the least two weeks.. WTF?! i can almost hear it running now! :-?

SATAN: (2011-04-15 03:13:23)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

What suggestions did you need? You take a Maxima TPS sensor with the potentiometer inside. Then you clip the wires and reverse the polarity to make it read right.

Not sure why you would need the 240sx throttle cable. I am still running my OEM z31 cable.

CruiserZ31: (2011-04-15 03:43:29)

Pretty damn cool. I love how it still has the Treadstone on the side.

BLOZ UP: (2011-04-15 04:01:21)

Is that a wastegat dump tube? I did that once. It was awesome.

260DET: (2011-04-15 06:54:35)

Good luck, A+ for style and originality so I hope it works, throttle response should be great. Individual cylinder distribution? Shutup R [archived image: smile.png]

88sinZ: (2011-04-15 13:44:04)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

Thanks, that's exactly what i needed to know

To fit well the Throttle cable is about 3-4" too short, and people have said the 240sx cable is longer and uses similar mounts

88sinZ: (2011-04-23 05:27:21)

Any users swapped to a B14 throttle cable? It looks like I'm going to have to figure that out, it appears to be sized just right for what I need. The design is a bit different from the Z31 type, it bolts the mount to the inside of the firewall, and uses a smaller clip to secure it

see pic here

Careless: (2011-04-23 07:38:07)

86NissanZ was using an S12 200zx CA18ET cable for his maxima plenum to allow it to reach a little further.

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

Gotcha, I've seen 2 S12's in my areas junkyards in the past 5 years :-?

I'll be back with a report on the B14 cable and bracket

88sinZ: (2011-04-26 20:30:26)

Pics of hacked up hood..latch is still intact and usable, it doesn't stick out as much as I was hoping. But I still like it, it's subtle yet menacing

I'll be picking up a B14 throttle cable tomorrow, drilling holes in the firewall for the mount, and figuring out a way to mount a bracket to finalize this intake. Maybe cover it in a zebra stripe motif? :-D

DeleriousZ: (2011-04-27 00:15:00)

Lol that looks awesome dude.

roastin300: (2011-04-27 04:36:53)

Whats the thing pokin out the back of the hood? External wastegate dump? Maybe a 200zr scoop over it would look cool.... :nanan?re Kinda looks like a compressor housing at some angles.

Careless: (2011-04-27 04:41:00)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

it would melt. wastegates like to spit hot flames bruh.

nismopu: (2011-04-27 04:44:03)

I still say you should cut the external WG dump flush with the hood. It looked awesome on my friends turbo accord and he had dual 38's, lol!

Careless: (2011-04-27 04:50:23)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

I agree, however it would be unnecessary now, due to the intake sticking out anyways. LOL

roastin300: (2011-04-27 05:04:31)

Wait, so it is or it isn't the wastegate dump? Careless says it isn't, nismopu says it is??? :lol:

88sinZ: (2011-04-27 05:21:15)

It's a dump tube from a TiAL 44 MV-R, I have a set of 240Z hood vents that were about to end up on there with the rear most louvers cut out to allow the pipe to stick through, but it fits nicely as is

'bout to try nerding it up on Starcraft2, so if i never come back remember me bro's

ZFast88Z: (2011-04-27 21:16:56)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

Fail game of the century. Flush cut the wastegate dump with the hood and use one of these (a round one would be better, but I could only find the ovals.

BLOZ UP: (2011-04-27 21:52:56)

No.

Do this:

88sinZ: (2011-04-27 22:16:23)

Fail game would be bitching how gutted manifolds are so hard to do and i don't know a welder so i'll just keep it stock, and then complain how routing a IC off the stock T25 will not fit around my A/C stuff… THEN follow around members that call me out 'cuz I'm a D-riding bitch and incessantly post in topics I have no reason to post in so I can make petty remarks

Love the flapper idea

BLOZ UP: (2011-04-27 22:58:20)

I think he was talking about Starcraft.

Careless: (2011-04-27 22:58:36)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

when did i say it wasn't?

he made a thread about it. It's the clown-pipe wastegate dump.

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

Yes I was

solost: (2011-04-29 01:37:27)

Any updates on the throttle cable or bracket? I have a maxima plenum with a similar setup on the front with the downward elbow. The throttle body is reversed like yours as well and the stock cable does reach, but I haven't had time to look at the z to see what to do about the bracket. I was thinking of making one so the cable wouldn't have to be changed, but the location of the bracket would suck right?

88sinZ: (2011-04-29 01:59:25)

The B14 cable is waaaaay long enough, I did have to modify it by removing some of the sheathing and re-secure the adjustment section so that I had enough forward cable. You have to remember I'm routing this just below the waste gate so I had to be cautious, no straight shots off the firewall.

I'll be securing a loop of it to the driver side shock tower column with a 3rd gen maxi bracket, and bringing around to the plenum body where a modified B13 throttle cable adjustment bracket will be mounted. BTW the mounting bracket comes pretty close to the stock distributor, maybe 1/2" away. I'm sure you could get away with a different bracket but the Q45 cable linkages are stretched out from the body it self, so I had that to overcome with sourcing components.

The firewall mount for the throttle cable appears the same on most Nissan's post '90 to ~97ish making many more styles and lengths available for custom plenum's and to be honest it seems the Maxima cable would have been a better choice, whatevs brah

All thats left to do is drill and tap the holes, mount the bracket, and take some pics

88sinZ: (2011-04-29 04:38:10)

*Forgot to mention, i couldn't source a maxima TPS to match the clockwise rotation, so i modified and re-wired a Q45 TPS to run in the same way a Z31 TPS would operate and read

Which endtank it is EV185 or the EV125?

ihickok0403: (2011-07-01 01:36:17)

where is the video of this?!

i cant wait!!

88sinZ: (2011-07-01 03:17:24)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

E25, it was cut down to about 18" and a flat piece of aluminum welded on so i could use that as a "butt plate" to add NPT fittings for a vacuum source… see the first post and look at the back, one for brake booster and one to feed a vacuum block

darkside: (2011-07-01 20:58:26)

What about rain rusting out your wastegate?

88sinZ: (2011-07-02 01:43:17)

It doesn't see rain/a plug

zmainiac: (2011-07-02 01:56:58)

Looks nice. Here is a pic of a vg30dett motor that makes 1900 whp and i dont think they payed too much attention to big volume either. That manifold is smaller than the satan one i have.(not saying that there is anything wrong with satans).

[archived image: 374faa9d.jpg]

SATAN: (2011-07-02 17:14:36)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

That is probably a 4" pipe going to that throttle body. Judging by that, I would guess that the plenum on that TT engine is somewhere around 4 liters in volume. It is usually recommend to have a plenum volume that is 1-2 times the engine displacement for high horsepower applications. I am sure that TT plenum falls in that category.

ZFast88Z: (2011-07-02 20:12:58)

Agreed. There is definitely a large volume in that plenum.
