I went to start my car one morning 2 weeks ago and it was flat out dead. I had it jumped later and all was well. I happened to notice that once the car was turned off that the tail lights remained on. I detached the sensor and sure enough it was toast. So I just purchased a replacement one and attached it and same problem, tail lights turn on the second they are plugged in. What's the catch? I don't have a clue what to do. Any suggestions would be great.

Your switch on the brake pedal need either adjusted or replaced. ()when the sensor box is disconnected it completely disables the rear lights, regardless of the brake pedal position.

There a little round plastic button that the switch on the brake pedal contacts. They break and fall out and the brake lights stay on

Sweet guys, thanks for the replies. I checked under the steering wheel and found the broken rubber stopper. I had read about this along time ago and had forgotten about it. My cruise control has never worked either so now I'll get that fixed at the same time.

Google is your friend for common Z31 issues. If you're tight on cash duct tape and a penny will do the trick. http://z31.com/repairs/brakepedal/
