MSA type Short Shifter kit installed in 1987 Z31 NA. (Identical to S13 kit)

Additional information:

Refer to FSM for trim removal.

Basic tools.

Lubricant Required. (White lithium grease used)

Hardware Received:

As shown (NO directions)

Current Hardware:

OEM shifter, MOMO boot, Technic knob (set screws)

Procedure:

Remove Center console

Remove base plate

Remove rubber gasket

Remove rubber boot

Remove upper c-clip

Remove shifter and molded plastic washer

Compare for fun

Remove lower c-clip

Remove plastic retainer

Insert lubed metal collar

Re-insert plastic retainer

Insert lower shifter

Re-install molded plastic washer

Install metal c-clips into grooves nuts down(adjust as required)

Install top plate tighten firmly

Reinstall rubber boot, rubber gasket, base plate and upper shifter.

Notice I shortened my shifter. My knobs use set screws.

Test shifting. Do to the change in the fulcrum the shifts should require slightly more force than stock but engage sooner.

Re-install trim.

Admire.

great write up even better pics. i like that e brake handle. you might want to let the water out of your tool box though.

very nice write up.. thanks a lot. This should be handy for my B&M pro ripper. Hopefully there is not that much of a difference in installing.

A side note. When installing the two piece short shifter, I recommend some Locitite.

The top shaft will loosen from the bottom half. after a few weeks of aggressive driving.
