Ok so I thought our cars stick had 10mm thread pitch? I grabbed this Nismo shift knob from a dealership that claimed it would fit the z31. I went to put it on and it's too large diameter wise? My stock one is smaller it seems.

Pretty sure all Nissans use M10x1.25

What thread is the knob?

And someone can verify, but the T5 shifter may have a smaller thread, heard that somewhere

the package says 10mm

here it ishttp://www.ebay.com/itm/150724584283…84.m1497.l2649

The T5 in the 85-86 Turbo cars are made by Borg-Warner and use a different sized shifter shaft and thread pitch. The Nismo knobs only fit the 71C and 30A trans in the Z31.

So what size is mine then?

Most T-5 stuff is M12x1.75, but you say yours is smaller than the M10. Perhaps its a 3/8" or M8x1.25?
