I want everyone to check in and post something z related, humorous, or just general fun here Everytime they visit the forum. I could care less what it is, as long as it's bringing this community back together. FB is great but is losing it's luster with the car community.

Nissan has this fuel cap holder. It takes the Z31 cap, but I'm not sure yet if it fits on the flap when it's closed.

Iâm hoping my mechanic starts on my Z this week. He got thrown a 600HP evo that wouldnât start. Well, upon getting it started… it didnât last very long. Either the oil pressure was crap or the tune was crap. Either way RIP.

Haha, sorry about the disappointment. Cup holder on a fuel door, though? So you can rest your drink while refueling?

Posted here a few days ago about finding late model turbo hubs. I appreciate James work putting together the write-up machining early model hubs. I'm going to go that route. Just ordered Z32 calipers, Z33 track rotors, stainless lines, stoptech sport pads, and caliper adapters. Excited to have good brakes for once.
With that said, I still use this forum for reference a couple times a week. I hope we don't lose it in the future, and would be happy to donate to keep it going. Sucks some of the picture hosting is down, but thatâs services like photobucket for you…

My transmission has been leaking pretty badly and I'm sure that's the reason my clutch is slipping. Not sure if it's the rear main seal or the front transmission seal but I've got the driveshaft out and I'm close to figuring out the culprit. IMG_20190420_163705.jpg

I've got an itch to turn Shiro 683 that's been sitting in storage without an engine or drivetrain for the last 10 years that i've owned it, into an EV conversion.
Been watching a guy in the UK that has a diy type channel that is super interesting.
Alas, that itch has no wallet for atleast another 2 years until my kids are out of private school and i get my full paychecks back. Then serious work can begin on that, and my AE.
crosses fingers
zachary.ard: (2019-04-23 19:19:07)
I think an EV conversion with modern tech would be super rad - especially with your attention to detail.

My Z gained a ton of weight..... J/K the Z was relocated to make room for this GTO. It's a friend/customer build I'm working on. I'm pretty much building the entire car. Outside of that there's some big changes coming for my Z31, but as of right now it's on hold until this GTO is done.

I'm buying back my first Z. It's been 2 years since I've seen it. Owner contacted me when I finally have room for it again and gave me a fair price.
I gave it an LSD
I did NA2T with it in 1 weekend with a buddy
I burned a lot of rubber in college with it
I had break ups in it
I annoyed my neighbors with it
I lifted it for fat tires
I rallied it in the snow every winter
I drove it.
I loved it.

just took my 84 VG33ET out of storage for the season, started right up and ran like a top. Only plan is to put the passenger side block filter location into use and run two filters and a less janky oil cooler setup.

Last I heard through the rumor mill is that he is going through a career change. For now, you can get the same parts also "online" at pastpowerparts.com
If there is something not offered there, you can message Zachary Ard above and he can probably hook you up!

I'm closing on my new home this upcoming Friday. I'm going to be saving up for a while but its the first place ill have with a garage. That means, after a bit of saving up, I can finally start focusing more on my 85 N/A Z. I have a lot of parts ready to be replaced and I finally have the time to start focusing on my first project. I'm beyond excited about it.

How would you plan to deal with the missing interior? Mine also have a stripped interior and the there's no parts Zs anywhere. All the ones for sale are in a "too nice" of a condition to be worth parting out.

Made my own short shifter setup for the 30A out of the common Made in China kit, an OEM ECR33 shifter, and some custom additions. Roughly 20% shorter travel of the knob. I'll post up a longer write-up of this with all of the details.

Installed the lip and rear spoiler on my '84, now counting 452228 miles on the OD. The lip proceeded to immediately fly off on the highway never to be seen again. It was an '86 lip so it didn't even fit right. It was $6 so I wasn't too bummed. I just said screw it and bought an '84 turbo lip off a guy on facebook.

I'm still sorta here.
Not much has changed except we bought a bigger house, so now my eight dozen boxes of upgrade parts now only take up a sixteenth of of the basement. And I traded up for a winter beater that eats mostly anything short of a ZR1 C7 for breakfast. If you keep track of stuff like that. Which I don't. Cuz why would I would I know.
These days I'm mainly just backing Zoey out of the garage and opening up the stereo to educate the local dumbass yoga wives all about how music wasn't invented by Beyonce or Pitbull or fucking Five-Finger Death Punch.
So, yeah. Angry as ever. Except I have more parking now. The future involves a Ferrari 412 and an import BMW M635CSi and an expensive divorce.

My Z is nearly back together. Heard it run the other day with the new headers and exhaust and it sounds good but I need to hear it in person. Still waiting on a straight pipe for the intake and a fender mount for the bumper. I had ordered 2 mounts months ago from Steve at 300zxparts but when my mechanic went to put the bumper back on we discovered that Steve sent me 2 for the same side. I hope he gets back to me soon or sends me the right one this week. I want to drive my Z.

I've spent the past two hours today getting my valve covers off, I'm refinishing and resealing them. Just got the driver side off. Also to my dismay a week back I discovered my oil pan gasket had completely sheared in two near the rear main seal retainer so now I definitely have to replace that. I'll be saving up for a hoist to support the engine, since I already have the transmission out. No end in sight.. [archived image: frown.png]

Crazy how everyone is getting a new place. I just moved into my town home with my first ever attached garage. I was hoping to get some time to get it ready for the summer but it'll probably have to wait til next year to drive it. I think the goal now is to get the main mechanical issues sorted out during the summer, then save up and plan for the NA conversion to Turbo while working on the cosmetics. Depending on budget, maybe plan a step by step to increase it to 400~ HP next near or two.

Went to cars and coffee last weekend in our new to us Z which we bought from Nissan egg above mentioned. Also, spent most of this week saying good bye to my bad ass view and moving my family to a new place. It will be almost a year before we can officially move in but, that's ok as the Z has a nice shop to stay in where it's protected from all that chaos.
Look for more pics of the Z in days to come as well as our new shop that's being outfitted over the next few weeks!

I agree. I refuse to use social media, especially facebook. Too much info on all of us out there to be abused. They own your info. The forums are a much better place to go for a car community. If this forum picks up some steam, I am all for it. I kinda miss the old times where there were 5+ active Z31 forums. I would spend 1 - 2 hours a day reading and responding. Now I can do it in 2 minutes. All that is active is this forum and all the others I find have no traffic. And this one is not very active.

I'm in the same situation as far as facebook goes. Don't have it and don't plan on getting it. I come here every day and see what's new and then look at old threads that may help me with whatever issue I may be having or whatever thing I may be planning in the future. I don't know how much I may be missing out on by not having facebook but with the way it is talked about I think it might be a good amount. When the site was down those few days I was worried it wasn't coming back. The other forums just don't have it.

Probably the best way is to get some New build threads started here and link it them to facebook to draw them here. This forum is the much better quality of information than the trash I've seen on facebook. But there has been some interesting post of there but even then it scatter across multiple groups.

My non car guy buddy decided we talked about cars and bikes too much at work and decided to get a project. He couldn't decide between a Z32, 240sx, or an E36. I told him to check out Z31's. He fell in love and just so happens, one of the Marines in our squadron had an 85 2+2 that skipped a tooth and had been sitting for 6 months. Talked him down from 800 to 500 bucks and towed it to my house.
We tore the front end off and checked the timing belt. Timing belt was good and on the correct teeth. I told him to buy a battery and we'll put it back together. Tried to start but nothing. I pull the distributor out and it was way off. Got the engine to TDC and re stabbed the distributor. Starts up first try and purrs. The man has a running 5 spd with working digi dash and cold A/C for 600 bucks.

Have a used mint one on order to try again. and the old cracked one is already modded and ready to wire into the rear brake lights. Just filling the cracks one last time with gorilla glue and will hit it with

Had the Z31T in storage for the last few years because life got in the way (health and financial). But recently I have spent some time cleaning up the Z and fixing a few things that have gone wrong. Like the brakes not working, reinstalling the interior.
After a good washing, I am now focused in getting a drive in it soon. After having a car for almost 35 years, seeing it cleaned up and looking pretty, I have been bitten by the diseaZe again. When starting it and moving it outside to wash it, I missed driving it. Funny how out of sight or of mind some things could be. Moving recently and now having a proper garage to store and work on the 2 Zcars puts them both in my sight. Soon I will open a thread showing what I am doing finishing the 85T. This has taken way too long.

Quick tip. If all you want is the blacked out brake vents, spray em with paint, use a hair drier to get them to tack up, and take a paper towel with lacquer thinner to the face. I figured this out after painting one with a q-tip took me an hour, and masking tape was overboard.

I discovered Sunday that a 2004 front tire/rim from a 350Z will bolt to a 2019 Leaf. Offset puts the edge of the tire flush with the outside of the fender. Go figure. Same bolt pattern and center bore. TIre was a 225/50r17 vs factory 215/50r17, so only slightly oversized.

Hey folks… looking forward to diving back into my Z project after a fairly long hiatus. My youngest son graduated college and got a job, so I'm about to get a hefty pay raise. Just need to save up a little to take care of some debts, then the Z will be my top priority.
It's been nice scrolling through the pages here… reading about someone else who bought back their Z was cool and definitely struck a chord with me. I agree with the OP sentiment about FB groups and would love to see this forum do well. For my part, I just need to figure out what to do about my build thread and all the white space that was once Photobucket links. I have all the pics, so I may take the time to go through and update with the pictures uploaded to this site. I'll need to read up and figure out what my options are. The original file calls look like they've been scrubbed from the html so as not to display all those "Photobucket hates you" images, so it may be a lost cause trying to reconstruct something I started 7 years ago.
Just noticed my signature isn't showing up… just another thing to go figure out (again).

I should have talked to him about coloring in the "Z" on the center caps but overall I think the wheels look better with the AG2 Aztec Red than the silver wheels I had on before. I had a fresh set of 225/50/ General GMAX RS tires put on too.

Pulled my Z out of my dad's garage this summer where it has been sitting frozen in carbonite for the past 8 years. I've been out of the car thing for so long but finally got the itch to get this thing cleaned up and back on the road properly again. It's crazy to see how things have changed since back in the glory days of the mid 2000's when drifting was just coming to be and you could find spare Z31s everywhere you looked for $500. Now I'm cringing at the fact that all of my black interior is long gone in a landfill somewhere and I want an adult car now so all of the pieces are either impossible to find, or are $$$. I've ordered a slew of parts and hoping over the winter to get this thing sorted on Stance coilovers, S13 subframe, Z32 rear brakes, Z33 axles, PBM arms, and rt.Trackpro front BBK. Also going to give a bootleg Route 71 rear wing a shot, replace the missing left side skirt and put on a matching L/F fender. The car is two hours away from my home but at least it has been out of the elements all this time and I'll have a second shot at building it how I always imagined it should be.

Hey hi. It's been long time since I logged here, and even visit. I had 4 kids, changed 3 times job, but I've still managed to keep my parts car and my restored one. I started in the Z31 community back when Z31.com was still an active forum, there was no Nistune but Romulator, Powertrix was not existing, and I even bought parts on Z31performanceparts.com. However still like how deep some people had worked and stock knowledge on this forum for over 10-years.

Hey - Its been a minute. Just checking to see if my username still works [archived image: smile.png]
I tried to sell my Z for a bit, but decided to hang onto it and I sold my 24hrs of Lemons car instead.
I took it to gingerman twice last summer and its getting to be a fun track toy. I've just bought a trailer and plans to do more this coming season! https://youtu.be/vo8nX1wJU2Q

Sorry if not allowed, but this is the only way I can get in? Is my account restricted or something? I cant make posts or threads and none of the buttons work when i click on them, and only certain links work. Trying to make a post in the social lounge and it wont let me!! Its the same scenario on my work lap top, home PC and my iPhone. Even logging in is being troublesome… I cant even send private messages or change my profile/user settings. Tried the "contact us" feature and when i click submit it says failed due to missing security token. I'm confused…

@Twisted'Z Something seems broken with a lot of the functions of the message board, it's not just your acct.
Twisted`Z: (2021-02-07 00:44:16)
Ah okay, I looked around for other people posting about similar issues and didn't find anything so I figured it was just on my end. Not familiar with this new layout didn't help either, lol!

Since it's 2021, I guess I'll log in at least once this decade and say hello. How many of the old guard are still around?
FlyingT: (2021-04-02 05:45:38)
Hey,
I am still around and check in a few times a week. Activity is nothing like the old days. I miss the forum heydays. I don't do Facebook.
I still have my 85T and Z32, will never get rid of either of them. Owning a Zcar for 36 years and another for 26, they become family members with names. You don't trade in a brother or daughter. LOL

I'm still here. Still have the 87 Slicktop, and two parts cars. But havent touched them in years, drove the slicktop for a week back in 2019 but she's worn out, needs more work.
I was on Facebook for the last decade or so, but November 2020 my Facebook was hacked and I don't feel the dire need to make a new one, additionally Facebook support is the definition of inefficient, still havent regained total access to the account, I was able to reset the password but the hacker set it to Vietnamese language and set up an Authenticator that I cannot access, and of course Facebook support only respons once a month, if that, so I've given up on it.
If anyone is curious about me or what I've been up to, in more detail, I've posted a thread in the social lounge.
SnooZn: (2021-04-20 13:04:44)
Well, I'll be danged. Hey guys, long time no Z!
Still have the '87. It's pretty much a daily driver and has been for a while because I've been a bit too lazy as of late to do overdue maintenance on the truck. Starting to get warm again so maybe I'll finally get it done.
Also time to do the timing belt again on the Z. Past due actually… so it will probably be first on the list.

My car takes up a prime position in my garage while 2 cars are parked outside, so if it didn't run strong and still allow me to drive it hard I would put a bullet in her head! I wish this board was a little busier, but seems like these type of forums are not as busy as they were back in the old days. I remember Z31.com days with "Morgan" whoever that dude was that board was busy in the 90's and early 2000's and I got tons of great advise, lines on parts and repairs too. This board has been great but it is slow, but I think NICO is slow too and even the biggest Mercedes Benz board I just started using a year ago is pretty slow.

Personally, I blame Facebook for a majority of that.
I still keep the Arkansas Z Car Club website up and online along with its forums, but they almost never get used anymore. That decline started when everyone started talking on Facebook as it makes quick messages super easy and folks tend to get a bit lazy.
What I hate about it is that information gets lost within a couple of weeks if not days or hours depending upon how many people use it.
It has been the reason for many a slow death of popular forums and websites, but small and large… far and wide.
Z31.com was a unique experience. That which did not kill you there made you stronger. Made many a post there.
Z_Karma: (2021-04-20 22:08:05)
Indeed.
It beat you into compliance with a online code of conduct that I still adhere to: Do your research and ask informed and detailed questions to the best of your ability.
Also don't hotlink, else tubgirl will haunt your dreams.

I agree 100%. A lot of old sites and forums I've used back then are gone or vacant now. Z31.com was like the main place to go on the internet, for me, before Facebook. In fact, the only reason I migrated to Facebook was because all my old online hangout spots were emptying out and disappearing.
Facebook is the degradation of humanity. Sure its initial idea to allow you be in contact with friends and family far and wide was a decent idea, it quickly turned into a pit of trolls and illiterate idiots. Its ruined relationships and friendships for many, and just causes unnecessary drama.
I miss the days of having to figure things out on your own, and having to go to a library or book store to sift through magazines and books to find the information you needed. Having to wait and be patient for people to help you, and having to pick up the phone and call someone to get a hold of them. The days when touch screen and wireless technology were only seen in Star Trek or other television shows.

YouTube is really the only thing I enjoy out of "social media" if its even considered that but....
Donut Media is a automotive channel on YouTube, that I've grown fond of. They have a video talking about pop up headlights. They even made a little jam song about it… that DIDN'T feature any 300ZX pop up lights.
Well in the full version of this song that they released in January 2021 finally includes more cars, including the 300ZX. The song is kind of hip-hoppy but I appreciate the silliness of it as well as they finally put some Z31's in the video!

Zbum - 513 MB July, 20/30MB day
Jason - 1.29 GB July, 50/60MB day
When looking this year. Seems pretty close to those numbers in every month.
Jason page has few images that are broken. Mainly JPG vs jpg in names.
They are running in US site of Godaddy currently.

My signature is wack. And all those vehicles are long gone lol

Buried in snow here … I keep my hoods up … The mice don't like being exposed … Plus side it seems z31's are going up in value … mainly because so many have been crushed … I had a squirrel drop a 5lb pinecone on a right front fender . Any thoughts on pulling the fender ? Pro only ? .

Two years are up! Where is the EV conversion! [archived image: smile.png]

shit,,,
lol, the month after my kids were out of school… I got a new gf and have been doing couples stuff. and other vehicular distractions.
I'm staying stuck-in on more attainable goals for the Z cars that i can do in the limited space i have available.
I have new Recaro seat upholstery being made by MCA upholstery for both Shiros, and new carpet kits from Stock Interiors to match. as well as 2 new hybrid turbos from AGP
I am keeping an eye on the Youtube channel B is for Build and his acquirement of 4 wrecked Teslas in preparation for a potential EV conversion.
Alas, the AE has still sat in storage. I got a warning from the property management about working on cars in the storage complex, so i had to cease and desist wrenching there.

Hi everyone! just passing thru while thinking about getting my z31 out for a spin..
mwolvinm: (2023-09-01 16:37:58)
I still pop in from time to time, but am busy as crap. Between working on the Taurus and Corolla, I can't seem to get to the Z. I did get new carpet and seat covers in. Still need to finish a little body work on the front/rear facias as well as the center mudguards. and pop in the windshield. and finish rebuilding the brakes. and replace the suspension bushings. then.... cruise.
anyone know a source for a shift knob that will thread? Mine's missing the shift pattern placard.
Twisted`Z: (2023-09-10 01:25:25)
Back in Arizona, going to be working on the Z31 soon! She got a little rough sitting over the last 3 or so years, and I'm pretty sure the mice have made a rather large nest in the engine bay. Only peeked and havent fully opened the hood yet (scared and a little upset about it). Going to document the slicktop's second restoration more effeciently and the goodies will be available Patreon, as well as updates here and on my newly established project website. I don't want to be the cliche (Hey guys subscribe and buy my merch.) I'd rather let you decide for yourself based off the presentations I give. The slicktop is not the only project I'll be featuring on my project sites. Some projects haven't been announced yet, but planning on doing this one step at a time. Don't want to get too many things going at once, I'm new to this content creation thing.
I'm -probably- going to do a reveal video of the slicktop which will feature me opening up the hood and getting a first look at the engine bay carnage as well as doing a walk around of the car and fully identifying the project needs.
Website: https://codeusa.000webhostapp.com <--- look in the Project News section and scroll down past the first article for an article on the slicktop
Patreon: https://patreon.com/codeusa
More pics (over 2MB): https://codeusa.000webhostapp.com/Z31/
Pic8.jpg
(PS: While I'm a little upset about the condition of the car I have no one to blame by myself for leaving it behind for 3 years. Should make an interesting project! Also, not -too- worried about mouse damage as I'll be switching to stand-alone engine control. Probably megasquirt but I've seen some people on YouTube use Holly EFI stuff and I really like the options and capabilities I've seen of that system, but looking over the Holley website I don't see anything for V6 options.
