Hey guys just wanted to post a teaser of something I've been helping Dirty Dingo develop. We are expecting the 1st batch to be completed and on sale in about 4 to 5 weeks. I know my car and my engine are dirty [archived image: redface.png] . I have a few of both laying around so it can be a pain to keep up with [archived image: tongue.png]. Oh I'll also give you guys a taste of whats to come with my unknown build........shhh don't tell anyone [archived image: wink.png]

Good stuff Landon.
You should really grab a 6 pack and pressure washer to the rest of the car matches that turbo [archived image: smile.png]

Very NICE. Please keep us up to date on this engine swap. Thanks

Mounts are looking really good in there. At this point the engine literally bolts into the car even using the stock transmission.

Is there any way Dirty Dingo could do a rubber mount ? Im not a fan of poly but im super pumped to see this happening. nice work !

I know I know lol. I'll be starting a build thread here shortly and that engine bay will be presentable when I do rofl.
Very NICE. Please keep use up to date on this engine swap. Thanks
Will do Gary! Thanks for the complement.

Thanks Matt. I think the z31 30a with a z32 bell housing accompanied by the lsx adapter plate will get you very close to the factory shifter location. I haven't tried it yet due to the fact I don't have a z31 30a but I do have 3 other 30a transmissions lol.

I'll ask him tomorrow if there is a rubber option. I doubt it, but I'll try. Thanks for the complement too man! I'm also excited. It's not everyday that the z31 is getting aftermarket parts/goodies love. Or at least ones that were developed just for the z31.
If anyone is wondering this kit makes use of the 1998-2002 LS1 Camaro oil pan. The final version will likely be lowering the the engine another 3/4 of an inch. The engine mounts will run 159.99 in raw metal. If you would like them powder coated its a extra 15$. Both the mounts and plates are included for the 159.99$. I know the truck manifolds facing the correct way don't fit. I do know the 1998-2002 LS1 Camaro factory exhaust manifolds fit but I'm unsure about any others.*

Yeah poly seems to be the only avenue at this time. Hopefully the 1st batch will be up for sale in about 4 weeks. I'll keep everybody posted on any changes. Man I really do appreciate the kind words. I've always wanted to contribute to the z31 community even if that meant I assisted only 1 person or 100 people. I feel like this will expand our community.

I like this. I was looking into an LSX swap a while back and was planning to try to adapt some Z32 mounts.

Are these meant for n/a or turbo cross members? Or is it universal? I got a 88 se 200sx I'm itching to do a v8 swap in.

This kit utilizes the N/A cross member. I haven't tested the kit on a turbo cross member yet. The kit will fit turbo cross members but I believe the orientation of the engine would be compromised using one. I have a few turbo ones laying around I'll give it try after the holidays.

That is a fantastic looking motor mount. How far off of the steering rack, does the oil pan sit with these mounts? I set my engine with oil pan on 1/8" steel plate, on top of the steering rack, then built my motor mounts off of that. Just curious how high the engine sits if the next set will drop it a full 3/4".
Also, how far back does the engine sit? Where is the oil pressure sensor on the back top of the block, in relation to the firewall? I know I have mine crammed as far back as I could reasonably get it.
EDIT: Actually, I can see it in one of the pics. Looks like it is sitting fairly high. About 1.5-2" above steering rack? Do you guys have any hood clearance issues? Still looks like it would clear everything just fine. But hard to tell until hood is on.

Thanks for the complement on the mounts John.
The new set will likely be lowering the the engine another 3/4 of an inch. The end goal is to leave about 3/8 of an inch clearance between the unmodified Camaro oil pan and the top of the P/S rack/crossmember. As far as the sump section of the oil pan its about 1/8 from the P/S rack. Even with this (higher 1st set/prototypes) there is a pretty good amount of clearance between the intake manifold and hood. Here's some pics
This is all the way back oil pan to crossmemeber clearance

Here in this pic the engine is all the way back. This is a dirty ass Map sensor on a Ls1 intake manifold. As you can see its very close to the seam on the firewall. So hopefully that will give you a idea of location the oil pressure sensor(in stock location)

Then here's the position of the Left( Driver side) head in relation to the firewall when the engine is all the way back.

Sorry I don't have a pic of the hood clearance at the moment, but there's plenty of clearance with the Ls1/Ls6 intake manifold. Once I get the revised set of mounts I will take plenty of pics and report back to update the progress of these mounts. With the engine all the way back there may be some transmission tunnel modification/ massaging that will be needed. It's hard to say considering there's been 5 or so of us that have done/are doing this swap and we all used different transmissions.

I can never go back riding in a poorly insulated z with no a/c in south Florida weather. But Looks like there is enough head room for a whipple charger which I hope leaves the room for adapting an GM ac compressor, relocating the battery and route some new ac lines in it's place. Now were to find all the money to fund this.....

I was just notified as of 5:30PM central time. I should be receiving the final/revised version of the mounts sometime early next week. As soon as they arrive I'll be test fitting them. If all is well the 1st batch of the revised mounts will be ready/on sale about a month after next week(Due to the fact they must be made. Then a portion of the mounts will have the available coating applied). Unfortunately the holidays had really slowed our progress down dramatically. But we're back on track. So as before, please bear with me. This is still happening I promise.

All right guys here's a major update! So I received the revised mounts on Saturday 1/10/15 but wasn't home to sign for them[archived image: frown.png]. Today 1/13/15 was the soonest I could make to the post office to pick them up (had work). I installed them and everything fit perfect! So contacted Dirty Dingo to let them know the great news. As of 1:04PM Central time today 1/13/15. They have started production of the Bolt in LSX mounts for the Z31!!!!!!!! They will go sale in about 4 weeks. Keep your eyes peeled here www.http://www.dirtydingo.com/store/index.php or here https://www.facebook.com/DirtyDingoMotorsports for when the mounts hit the shelf. The revised mounts have lowered the engine another 3/4 of an inch. With the engine all the way forward there is 2 7/8in of clearance between the throttle body and hood. Now for some pics.[archived image: cool.png]

Here's a small list of people I know of that had done the LSX swap and what trans they used. Sorry if I had forgotten anyone but this is just off the top of my head.
i r teh noobz TKO600
Satan Powerglide
hpmotorsports 4L60E
Wire guy 4L80E
Bigcavolo T56
Myself RS5R30A (aka z32 transmission)
Well I can't tell you exactly how the everybody else fit the other transmissions. (I just don't know) I would assume the one's that used manual transmissions only massaged the tunnel a little for the bell housing portion of the transmission. Then the one's who used the larger sized auto transmissions massaged the transmission tunnel a little more to fit the transmission. If I had more time and the other transmissions available I'd give them all a try. That way we as a community would have the answer's to how each fit. I hope that with time we'll see more and more LSX swapped Z31s.

nismo kid: (2015-02-28 01:59:30)
Hey guys got great news! The mounts are now available![archived image: cool.png] This joint effort was started 7/17/2014. After 7+months of hard work we've finally reached the finish line. With me living in San Antonio, TX and Dirty Dingo being located in Mesa, Arizona there was plenty of obstacles for us to overcome. The largest obstacle was Dirty Dingo didn't have possession of the vehicle. So needless to say there was plenty of shipping, pictures, long phone conversations, numerous let downs, and a few mis-communications too. But we have over come all these obstacles, and created something I personally believe is great for the Z31 community. I'm honored to have had the great pleasure to work with Dirty Dingo. Brent is a stand up guy. (Along with a Datsun enthusiast [archived image: biggrin.png]). Without hesitation he took this project head on. And together we have produced a easily available bolt in LSX solution for the Z31. While keeping the costs down. When compared to other LSX mounting solutions it's easy to see Dirty Dingo offers more adjust-ability, and is vastly cheaper than a majority than other solutions on the market. I would like to thank all that have been patiently waiting. The wait is officially over! With all that said I would like to let you guys to know I am no way shape or form benefiting financially from the sale of these mounts. If you would like to purchase a set they are now available here at the link below.

Sorry to bump a 1.5 year old thread but i have a few questions that i couldn't find answers to on the previous pages.
I have a FS5R30A trans from a z31 that i am wanting to use. What adapter plate and flywheel did you use? I'm guessing the trans you are using is a FS5R30A but is it from a z31 or z32?
Also i know you said you had only verified that the mounts work on an NA crossmember but you said you might try it on a turbo crossmember. were you ever able to see if it would work on the turbo crossmember?

I used a LOJ adapter kit to mount my Z32 FS5R30A unit behind the LS. As for my flywheel I now have a custom twin disc clutch/ flywheel setup made by clutchmasters.
There's now more than just LOJ that offer adapter plates/flywheels that will achieve the same goal. But the Z31 FS5R30A will not work untouched. You'll need to use the Z32 bellhousing. There's no starter that'll work with the Z31 bellhousing to my knowledge. This had been covered here
https://z31performance.com/forum/mar…ap-kit-for-z31
I never got around to actually checking fitment while using the turbo crossmember. Personally I'd opt for an n/a to keep things simple. I believe the turbo crossmember will complicate things IMO.
onefast87: (2017-06-22 15:36:46)
Also using the LOJ kit with a z32 trans, the dirty dingo mounts won't work with a turbo crossmember, the mount will not slide back far enough on the driver side.
edizzle89: (2017-07-21 14:59:32)
I dont think i saw it mentioned anywhere earlier but what headers work with this swap?

I dont think i saw it mentioned anywhere earlier but what headers work with this swap?
For N/A several have had success with Patriot Block huggers & slighty modified hooker block huggers.

With the turbo Xmember it sounds like the L side mounting platform has to be extended rearwards. I wonder by how much assuming the height stays the same because it would be better to do this before trying to fit the engine. If no one knows I'll find out in a few months.
edizzle89: (2017-07-31 00:13:42)
Pretty sure the NA crossmember mounts are even with each other
edizzle89: (2017-07-31 00:18:09)
Also Nismo Kid i was wondering of you could repost the pictures that show the oil pan loaction. Looks like all the original pictures were lost in the photobucket-ocalypse. I was looking at the 'muscle car oil pan kit' and clearance wise it should clear the crossmember and rack with no problem due to having similar dimensions as the 98-02 f-body pan but the sump is 2.5" deeper the the F-body pan and i dont want to have the pan hang down too low
260DET: (2017-07-31 22:06:35)

Thanks, anyone able to verify that? I live in the sticks, mine is the only Z31 for miles.

here is a picture of the 2 of them. the top being NA and the bottom being the turbo crossmember, you can see the right (driver) side mount is moved forward on the turbo one

The F-body pan fits perfect. I highly recommend using them. If the pan is deeper than the F-body pan its going to hang below the crossmember. Here's a couple pics I'll upload more when I get home from work tonight.

Here's 2 more old pics

thanks for the pictures!
and it is becoming really difficult to find an F-body pan without buying new

sorry to keep bugging you for pictures nismo kid but do you happen to have any of the header/exhaust fitment?

Well i got my 4.8 set in and bolted down to the Z last week. I was able to make the Dirty Dingo mounts work with the turbo crossmember. I used a SBC LS conversion mount from ICT Billet on the driver side to get the mount offset enough froward to reach the pedestal on the turbo crossmember. Had to do some minor modifications to the Dirty Dingo mount on that side as well. I dont have good pictures of the mount on that side but i can get some and post them later.

Awesome edizzle89!

I also thought i could maybe get away with using the 'muscle car oil pan kit' that they sell for LS engines since i was having a hard time finding a F-body pan. I should have just kept looking though because after mounting the engine it was very clear that the muscle car pan wouldnt work, it sits ~ 2 inches below the bottom of the crossmember and ~2 inches off the ground, that's just asking for trouble.
After doing some research and using my internet skills i was able to get a new f-body pan, pickup tube, windage tray, dipstick and dipstick tube for $240 which isn't too bad compared to the price of most new pans and not a whole lot more then getting them used. I got the pan and pickup from advance auto using a 30% off coupon code (it only lets you take a max of $50 off, but if you order each individually you can use the code on both orders). Then i got the dipstick and tube from Summit, and the windage tray on amazon. It would be hard to get all those parts for any cheaper then that. I should also be able to sell my muscle car pan and recoup some of that money.

I'm going to have to rework my numbers now and see if that adapter plate will be close enough to a NA2T swap to go the LS route instead. It's $400 cheaper than the one I was looking at.

That is the one i am using and it went together pretty well. Seems like a good product so far

Here is why cant use the 'muscle car' pan, sits way below the crossmember and dangerously close to the ground.

got my engine pulled back out last night. got the oil pan changed out to the f-body pan. one thing when putting the engine back in is that it is VERY tricky to squeeze it in between the pan and steering rack and the bellhousing and firewall. it took alot small lift, push in, lower, push in, repeat several times. But i finally got it in and set in its spot. The engine had to move back a little bit from where it was with the old pan but i still had just enough adjustability in the motor mounts with my mods on the driver side to offset of the turbo crossmember. now i can finally start getting everything else around the engine installed.

Got coolant lines figured out. The lower hose is a cut down 03 Traiblazer 5.3 hose. The upper is the original hose from the radiator to my rad cap adapter, the other half is a 2000 corvette upper hose cut down. I have to trim some of the hood structure to clear the rad cap but besides that it should work. I also made a small bracket that comes from the support behind the headlight to hold the rad cap adapter down and keep it from moving. the barb fitting on the side of the adapter is for the steam lines off the heads of the LS.

To the guy asking about my alternator mount, I ended up just using spacers and a piece of square tube to mount it to the right of the head, looks a little ghetto but seems like it should work alright.
edizzle89: (2018-01-02 15:50:07)
I also found that the patriot rear dump block hugger headers (H8086) did not fit very well. on the passenger side the collector was against the frame rail, could probably be pounded in a bit but it was also a little too close to the fuel lines (which could be re-routed but just wasnt a fan of its fitment) and the driver side was going to need major work right in the collector to fit around the steering shaft. after a couple hours of looking at headers/factory manifolds online and eyeing/measuring my engine by I am 95% sure that a pair of C6 corvette LS3 exhaust manifolds are the solution. should clear no problem on the passenger side and should be reasonably easy to get around the steering shaft on the driver side.

If you're not using the hole below your nut stack, you could put a block with two holes in it instead of the nuts or a spacer.

got the c6 vette manifold on, looks like they will work, snaking the pipe around the steering shaft will be a little tricky but not too bad.
on another note there is simply not enough room for the starter between the trans tunnel and trans. I have hammered it in as much as i can but i need to gain room right were the firewall/trans tunnel/floor meet at a point and i doubt any amount of hammering will make enough room. Looks like i'll have to cut a small section out and make a plate to over the opening where the starter will fit.
Dunkine: (2018-01-09 00:12:24)
Is there a smaller starter you can use? I know Jegs and Summit have "Mini Starters" with adapters. Are the truck & car starters the same size?

With the adapter plate you dont use a chevy starter, it uses a z32 starter which bolts to the sofe of the bellhousing rather then the side of the block
