Is it awful to gut one with an angle grinder or something? I was thinking about being a cheapskate and doing it myself…

That's what they use to do it lol.
You could get one though ASCO , last I checked he still did them, gutted, port matched, etc

Just make sure if you replace any metal, it's at least 1/4" thick to prevent flex
