i just had mine done for $75 and it will be done everytime for now on. what a difference! the car runs much smoother and this is with a fidanza flywheel and act clutch the whole assemblie was only out about 7 grams total but the difference is night and day.
i decided to do this after jason had his run in with the exploding flywheel, and i'm very glad i did.

Good advice that needs to be repeated. ALWAYS get the assembly balanced when you buy any aftermarket flywheel. In the case of fidanza and most others they are NOT balanced from the factory and not getting them balanced on your own is a recipe for disaster. Even if it's just your main bearings that suffer because of the imbalance, it's worth the time and money to get it done right just to decrease the probability of failure.
I'm surprised yours was only 7 grams out, mine was double that. Another similar thread for reference:

so jjewell you were driving with what you had, then took it out for balancing, then reinstalled....
and the car is much less noisy or what exactly is the feeling?

I think that comparison shows it pretty well. The flywheel should be pretty well balanced, just like a wheel, but when you start putting stuff on it can become unbalanced.
I just picked mine up from getting balanced. About 8 grams off, mostly on the pressure plate, $70.

You were a little vague in your post… it's internal vs external balance you were talking about, and confused it with balancing a rotating assembly on the front or back of the crankshaft… Generally speaking for an external balance they balance both the harmonic balancer and flywheel with the rotating assembly. For an internal balance, the rotating assembly is balanced on its own, and flywheel/harmonic balancer are then balanced on their own so the entire assembly is assumed to be in balance. There's a few other combinations and ways to do it, obviously, but I've never heard of trying to 'balance out' a flywheel using a harmonic balancer. The concept seems a little ludicrous even as they are on opposite ends of the crankshaft.

Holy Shit! I'm a believer!
They took a ton of material off one side of the ACT and added some on the other and had to weld some bead on the pressure plate to get it balanced. I don't mean a few milligrams, I mean a lot of material. Pics to follow soon…

Some performance engine machine shops and most clutch shops. South Bend Clutch will also do it for you if you buy one of their DXD series clutches.

Just because I like to stick with GIVING BACK to the Z community or sticking with its sellers I'd say buy yourself a Fidanza flywheel through Jason ( http://www.Z31Parts.com ) and a DXD (South Bend Clutch), and then possibly have Jason or yourself have the fidanza flywheel DROP SHIPPED to South Bend to have everything clutch and flywheel balanced together, this way it'll save you some time going to a shop and getting it done, so when it comes, its ready to install (RTI), but thats just me.
Maybe get more reviews and such before making a choice…
P.S. Go with Motul Clutch/Brake Fluids, said to work wonders with Z clutches..(Stated @ MSA)

Just had my Fidanza flywheel balanced. It was used for about only 160 km.
3 grams out. Balancer guy was surprised.

I called around here in Greenville SC, to get this done before my NA2T and was told that it had to be done while they were installed on the car.
My sticky shifting is still not fixed so I think I'm gonna find a good clutch shop that will balance mine too, while they have it all apart.
If anyone knows a good local place to take it for this, (Durkin or Robyr) please let me know. Thanks.

That's not true. If your were going for the most extreme balancing and the crank wasn't balanced from the factory, maybe.

LMAO i just seen a guy explode/grenade his 2010 mustang on the freeway today going about 130 lets just say no scatter shield his hood is garbage along with ALOT of his electics. BEST part he was crying "my mom just bought me this clutch"

The point being is adding any new clutch/pressure plate/flywheel to the system can put it off balance. It's better to have it done. Had mine done with the chromoly billet flywheel and kevlar clutch from SBC. Happy with the results so far. About to test some power in a couple weeks when I'm home though.

Is the vg30e internally or externally balanced? What exactly do I have to tell the shop to get them to balance it correctly
