Cesar H: (2013-02-05 04:56:40)

Hey guys,

So I am in the process of swapping out my T5 for a z32 transmission as many of you know. I bought everything for the swap which consists of a Maxima aluminum flywheel and a South Bend Clutch DXD stage 3 Daily but the bolt holes would not line up. I had the same problem as this guy http://forums.f31club.com/phpBB3/vie…&view=previous. What I did was use a round file to make the bottome portion of the hole big enough for the bolt to go through including the pins. My question is do you guys think I will run into problems for doing this once installing everything or should I take caution and weld some washers to the Pressure Plate?

Cesar H: (2013-02-05 16:23:24)

Also another thing I forgot to mention was the Maxima fidanza flywheel has a 240mm friction surface and the SS pressure plate and disk are 250mm. I hope I am fine since it should work with my stock 240mm flywheel.

Augustus Maximus: (2013-02-05 20:06:29)

I have a genuine Maxima flywheel for the Z32NA swap. Ran into the same problem trying to fit a 350Z pressure plate I had lying around, so I got a Z31 clutch kit that was also a no go. I ended up with a Maxima clutch kit and it lined perfectly with the holes. I took it at one point to get re-drilled at the machinist but that was too expensive to get done, when I snatched my shit back they said I could use a file and ghetto rig the holes (like you did) but then I might run into problems. You know that is supposed to be a balanced assembly, don't you?

I just picked up the Xcessive Manufacturing short solid shifter bracket, I highly recommend it from looks to functionality.

Cesar H: (2013-02-05 22:17:47)

Yeah I know it is suppose to be balanced so I plan on doing that. A new kit will run me around 500.00 so Im hoping to get this thing balanced and maybe get some washers welded on top of the slotted holes for perfect fitment. Might cost me about 150-200 dollars but it is better than losing 500.00.

nismopu: (2013-02-06 00:54:33)

Should have swapped the bells. None of these problems would have come up.

Axel kain: (2013-02-06 02:36:46)

^not always an option for those of us without Z31 30A's! (im planning to do this swap too)

simple enough, remove the material you need to get it to fit, THEN get the assembly balanced…

Augustus Maximus: (2013-02-06 02:41:26)

Once its done, swapping trannys will be simpler.

Axel kain: (2013-02-06 03:03:11)

plus it's cake to find CHEAP Z32 NA transmissions EVERYWHERE!

nismopu: (2013-02-06 03:03:29)

5 speed pathfinders are everywhere dead in junkyards.

Axel kain: (2013-02-06 04:03:17)

clutch/flywheel swap> having to swap bellhousing for transmission replacement! plus there is more of an aftermarket for the Z32 30A's already anyway.

Augustus Maximus: (2013-02-06 04:16:18)

All I need is driveshaft measurements and I'll be all set.

nismopu: (2013-02-06 04:53:10)

No. To all of your points. sorry. Until you guys have done both ways, I dont buy it. I dont ever argue on here anymore but this crap is out of control.

A. you are sacrificing clutch surface

B. you are making your flywheel "fit" (call southbend and get one drilled correctly for all this trouble)

C. Anything you want to buy for a z32 n/a tranny works when swapping bells.

D. you get to KEEP EVERYTHING ELSE STOCK EXCEPT DRIVESHAFT AND SHIFTER!!!!!! OMG!

^ these thing out weigh all your guys points. I understand justifying your current purchases but please......

gardner86zx: (2013-02-06 05:05:18)

It takes les that an hour to swap the bellhouseing.

Careless: (2013-02-06 05:23:23)

and if you do the s-chassis rear swap, you can make a driveshaft that works with the NA or TT z32 transmissions and it will be easier to find in the future if you break them a lot.

nismopu: (2013-02-06 05:30:11)

35" according to the swap thread.

Cesar H: (2013-02-06 07:54:46)

Took PP and flywheel to get balanced as a set.The machinest will be centering the PP as well as drilling bigger dowel pins to center the old ones as well as adding 3 more [archived image: biggrin.png]. If it doesn't fit we figure out a way to make it work that is what us z31 guys do! As many of you know I tried to get the 30a bellhousing for this swap but had no luck so now this but on the bright side I can always rebuild this PP by sending it to DXD. So I better get it done right instead of using a file plus it is for my own safety. On another note I have had this clutch for about 1 year already or else I would of had DXD drill out a flywheel that would fit perfectly.

Cesar H: (2013-02-07 04:05:10)

So I stopped by and talked to my machinest to see how things were going with the pressure plate and he said drilling out the holes a bit bigger should not be a problem since they only apply pressure on the Pressure Plate to have it sit with the flywheel and that the dowel pins are in there to secure it from movement or vibration as well as for the alignment of the Pressure Plate.

Got these right?

Cesar H: (2013-02-08 01:10:51)

I do not I thought the stock ones would bolt up according to what I have read. I will also call DXD tomorrow since the Pressure Plates on the Nissan Maxima are the same from 89-2001 according to ACT clutches and I went to my local auto parts store and they use the same part # for the 3rd and 4th gen Maximas. Here is the 4th gen clutch stage 3 daily from DXD http://www.dxdracingclutches.com/html/maxima.html if it is 250mm the only thing that I will need is the Pressure Plate and it would be the same price as it would be to get the one I have now machined. Good thing I told the machinest to not work on it until monday that I give him the Ok to work on it.

Cesar H: (2013-02-12 05:40:38)

So I went to the machine shop today and the machinest said his machine does not allow him to see if the pressure plate is 100% centered or not because of the design of the PP. What do you guys think of just making the holes bigger and balancing my flywheel and PP as a set or should I just get the correct PP? I have called Dave at DXD and left 3 messages and no call back yet hopefully I get a call back.

Augustus Maximus: (2013-02-12 11:58:21)

Buy the correct shit and save yourself the headache.

Cesar H: (2013-02-12 20:20:41)

You are right Augustus. I just got off the phone with Dave at SBC and he gave me a good deal for a new pressure plate, getting my flywheel redrilled, and balancing both as a set including shipping for 300 bucks. I wish I would've talked to Dave at SBC before I f'd up my pressure plate. Im sure if I just get my flywheel redrilled I should be fine since I only filed a little bit of the holes but better to be safe than sorry and only do it once but do it right.

Dave@SBClutch: (2013-04-16 17:50:02)

Maxima 95-01 uses the Exedy kit 06044, it has it's own drilling pattern. Does not share with the 240mm Z31 (06031/06032) or the 250mm Z31 (06055), nor does it share with the 350z stuff (NSK1000).

Augustus Maximus: (2013-05-20 15:10:40)

Any progress?

Cesar H: (2013-05-24 20:07:32)

Not yet, just got my hands on all the parts needed. Now need to install get my custom driveshaft and alignment. Car should be up and fully running by July.

Augustus Maximus: (2013-05-25 03:49:00)

Just dropped the engine back in tonight…now I see which part of the tunnel I need to massage. Driveshaft should be here next week.

Cesar H: (2013-05-28 20:08:49)

Thanks for the update Augustus keep us updated on the progress

Between work and other things I can't get time to do as much as I'd like, but I'll take a few pics,

Augustus Maximus: (2013-05-30 12:25:41)

Starter is in…bleeding clutch. Transmission mount bolted up perfectly. Will post pics when I get a chance.

G-E: (2013-06-01 08:44:07)

Who made that shifter support bracket? I need (/need to make) one soon…

Careless: (2013-06-01 09:12:53)

looks like mazworx. although i think ghanim made his own. not sure how hard it was but it doesn't look too difficult with a torch and a vice to be honest.

Augustus Maximus: (2013-06-02 20:00:19)

Xcessivemanufacturing shortened shifter bracket.

Augustus Maximus: (2013-06-04 14:08:18)

Got the clutch sorted out…shifts great. Currently wiring up the speedo, neutral and reverse light switch.

I like it, but the jury is still out on it.

G-E: (2013-06-06 22:49:36)

Looks like the shifter adapter should be another inch or so longer?

Augustus Maximus: (2013-06-06 23:22:06)

An inch…next time I'll make my own. The tranny should be dropped an inch as well.

Cesar H: (2013-06-07 21:30:47)

NICE!!!! Can not wait for pictures! [archived image: rolleyes.png]
