Just verifying as I picked up a new aftermarket 350Z PP & disc. Hopefully it fits, as I saw it as an option on one of DXD setups.

NissanXRMA: (2010-05-20 03:25:57)

Yes.

SATAN: (2010-05-20 03:44:45)

It works on the 240mm flywheel, not the 250mm flywheel… I think.

Dave@SBC: (2010-05-20 04:02:04)

The OE 87-89 turbo flywheel have a pressure plate drill pattern all it's own. The 350z pp has the same drill pattern as the 84-89 n/a and the 84-86 turbo. Also. The 350z flywheel is flat and the 300zx is stepped. That has to be addressed. Not doing so could result in an extremely low engagement or possibly a release issue.

MADMIKE: (2010-05-20 04:05:02)

Is there any option for the 30a crowd? Maybe with this new cromoly biz?

Careless: (2010-05-20 04:24:06)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

it bolts up to the fidanza. its not the trans that is the issue, it's the flywheel.

any aftermarket flywheel that works in both the 71C and 30A should work fine.

I literally just checked the dowel pin and bolt holes 20 minutes ago.

DeleriousZ: (2010-05-20 04:59:31)

Can use the 240mm flywheel with a 30a if you please.

Durkin: (2010-05-20 11:32:12)

^^ I have an 85t in my shiro using a 30a, no problems with that. can you put a 240mm on a W series turbo? or will the starter not engage it?

FlawleZ: (2010-05-20 14:29:39)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

Chromoly or just pick up the 240mm flywheel.

or Fidanza.

But had I not already bought one last year, I would be buying the Chromoly SBC.

I just got back from having my Fidanza resurfaced a hair's width, with a wet-stone resurfacing tool as Dave @ SBC suggested.

The sintered steel friction plate was quite scorched from repetitive slipping and transmission shudder in order to keep my drivetrain together.

That's about the most you can resurface an aluminum flywheel and steel plate without having to replace the friction disc. The inside fasteners that hold the plate on were juuuuuuuuuuuuuust brushed with the resurfacing stone, so that's it for this unit.

If I'm ever going to pull the trans again, I may just get a Chromoly flywheel if they're still available in the future. I think SBC will sell enough of these to warrant keeping a supply in stock.

What flywheel and clutch do you have in there now?

You can use either the 240mm or 250mm on any transmission and any engine and any starter. Only the clutch/pressure plate assy and flywheel have to match.

MADMIKE: (2010-05-21 07:44:32)

oh, I thought that there was an advantage to running the 250mm Flywheel.

Durkin: (2010-05-21 16:12:45)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

As far as I know its a factory turbo clutch made for the 85t. It was on it when I got the engine, with only about 300miles on it.

If it's stock 85T parts then the 240mm flywheel works with the 30A 5 speed.

More surface area for the clutch to grab…not sure how much of a difference it makes though…

Logically it does help with holding power but, this is just for the z31 pressure plate. The z33 pressure plate can be modded to have better clamping load but only works on the 240mm flywheels.

but uses a 250mm disc.

DXD4 went in. 350z pressure plate feels excellent.

1SickZ: (2010-07-29 18:45:22)

i feel like this post belongs here:

here is a message I Just sent to dave@SBC now maybe its me.. I've never dealt with this 350z plate before so who knows..

Dave, i recently received a DXD stage 6 clutch for a customers car that he purchased from z31parts.com and it was dropped shipped from you guys to me… its a 350z pressure plate.. and I'm thinking a 350z throwout bearing.. its much larger .. then I realized the raised portion on the (new) bearing and the lack of raised portion on my old bearing.. now that would cause an engagement issue for sure. the old bearing probably wouldn't even release the disc enough.. so was the wrong one sent? or am i doing something wrong? here are some pictures.

Top view: dxd bearing on left

(you can see the raised portion on the dxd bearing)

Side view: shows height difference. (dxd bearing on left)

Stock bearing:

DXD bearing:

I'm not sure where the issue is. in the mean time i will try to figure it out

because I'm in the middle of installing the motor. i don't see how to mount this new bearing due to the size difference but i will check it against different year bearings/mounts.

Thank you,

Mike

any help on the subject would be great. thanks

Racinjitter: (2010-07-29 21:44:08)

Mike, I have the dxd stage 6 with the same throw out bearing in my shiro and it disengages just fine so far. I still have to break it in but I am sure it will work just fine.

FYI, You measured the opposite sides of the bearings. The inner race is the same diameter as the OEM one. You are correct that the raised portion is a larger diameter than the OEM one though. But if you look a the pressure plate fingers vs the oem pressure plate fingers the mating surface diameter is also larger to match the throw out bearing.

1SickZ: (2010-07-29 22:20:53)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

thanks for the reply,

yea i knew the plate fingers were bigger

I must be over Analying the bearing.. but the machined lip is the larger one, if its not the correct side then the bearing is crap. lol

Are you telling me that the dxd bearing on the left is a pic of the back of the bearing?

If so that leaves the smaller inner portion of the bearing to ride on the plate....

1SickZ: (2010-07-29 22:24:13)

this guys pictures shows what i was thinking: frt/bck

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-OEM- … 1233wt_939

Racinjitter: (2010-07-29 22:31:46)

Ha, no I should have quoted the pictures I was looking at.

This picture you are measuring the ID of the inner race of the bearing, where it gets pressed onto the TOB sleeve.

This picture you are measuring the ID of the outer race of the bearing where it rides against the pressure plate fingers.

But yes, the DXD bearing on the left of your last picture is the back of the bearing that does not ride against the pressure plate fingers, that portion presses onto the TOB sleeve.

Racinjitter: (2010-07-29 22:36:21)

That guy has it backwards, if he were to press it on that way the bearing wouldn't be used at all, it would be the outer shell trying to turn against itself and the bearing would be satationary.

His "front" picture is what will be pressed against the TOB sleeve and his "back" pisture is what will ride against the pressure plate fingers.

1SickZ: (2010-07-29 22:47:20)

Ok ill try it that way. still scratching my head as to why the machined lip part of the bearing is what rides on the plate lol

thanks for your help.

clostoyo: (2010-07-29 23:10:55)

Does the dxd clutch have to be installed with the throwout bearing provided by southbend or can a oem bearing be used?

Rick88ss: (2010-07-29 23:12:00)

I'm using the FE-X Stage 6 with a 240mm flywheel on the SS.

I had to adjust the clutch pedal a bit to get it to engage right.

Feels pretty good. It has a pretty smooth engagement.

I only have about 10 miles on it though.

More miles to come soon. Very soon. :nanan?re

Racinjitter: (2010-07-30 00:26:15)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

I believe that the DXD throw out bearing is an OEM 350Z bearing. I can ask Dave tomorrow at ZCON.

clostoyo: (2010-07-30 00:34:29)

I bought a stage 3 Puck clutch but the Nissan oem 30a bearing was used

1SickZ: (2010-07-30 00:37:53)

did u have a 350z pressure plate? jitter it is a 350z bearing.

clostoyo: (2010-07-30 00:44:40)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

I don't think so, it's a stage 3 kit. I put in the throwout bearing that was on the 30a I bought from you.

Cool, do you have any more 30a's. My boy's looking for one.

1SickZ: (2010-07-30 01:05:46)

nope everything's gone.

Dave@SBC: (2010-08-16 12:40:07)

The OE bearing can be used, however, I typically supply the Z32 TT bearing. It's got a broader surface area and makes better contact with the pressure plate diaphragm spring.
