Then put your greddy profec b spec II in there. It's a bitch to do, as it took me 2 1/2 ash trays, and better yet the corner chipped off while I wasn't even cutting near the area. Freak accident. I'll seal that up better and repaint it, but it definitely looks good there (and the crack isn't noticeable from drivers and passenger view).

I would fix that Automatic problem before the ash tray, lol. But then again, everyone has their own flavors.

Really? I have not seen many people mod the ash tray for much, but then again i've only been in the community for 2 years. I've seen the turbo timer on the spring, but don't see many people attempt to cut the ash trays. I can see why people don't touch these ash trays though as they suck!

Hey i got one kinda related.... Got a system in your car??? With a bass nob?? Want to hide the bass nob so it can't be seen? Well mount it behind where cig lighter goes and take the actually coil off cig light and super glue to bass nob.... Now your cig lighter is your bass nob :-D

^ That's what I was talking about. I like that idea, but I'd prefer having my spec 2 in the ash tray where it's visible at all times considering it's my only boost gauge right now. I would just throw the turbo timer in the glove box or center console if I ever choose to get one (doubtful, I just sit and leave the car running for 30 secs myself lol)
But I did get paint matched for my tan interior at home depot tonight and will hopefully make the ash tray look brand new tomorrow.

so you do a pull, then check peak boost? no way you can see it while driving.

You can see it while driving. It's just as unsafe as staring at any of your other gauges at WOT. I have a three pillar gauge mount and I can see the profec just as well as the wideband located infront of my face.

Yeah, on mine I just notched the back out of it and stuffed the E fan controller there. Makes for easy adjustments.

yeaaah, there is definitely no way thats anywhere near as visible as a gauge even at the radio's height. For you to compare it to a-pillars? riiight.

i cut out a piece of aluminum 16th inch thick formed it perfect into the astray area drilled into those two little angle pieces of plastic and mounted my switches plus momentary switches coming soon :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: not gonna be juice i swear. lol well maybe im lying a little. just about finished with body work after about 5 months of welding ect ect to get the structure of the car to pristine condition. now shes primer black with a 3" exhaust from the 2-1 collector back no cat no muffler at this time looking at a greddy or somthing a little less loud then strights like i have now. gonna be Mercedes benz cls 500 black. with a large and smaller stripe down the passenger side (cobalt blue) getting all cobalt gauges put in soon as well. pics up soon

ill take some sunday when im not working and ill post em up for ya. its a "rough draft" as of right now till i can get it to perfection ill mount it in temp (got no carpet in car atm)

I did mine awhile back, kinda like Z-bums,
except the tray is on top of the boost controller and the spring is
directly underneath. The electrical tape i used to black out the sheetmetal is coming off though.
I didn't have the heart to cut up my good ashtray so i got this one
from a wrecking yard and hacked out the back with a Dremel.

Mine looks a lot cleaner now that I mended the plastic and painted it. I like it being accessible without pulling the tray out.

I have had my greddy profec b spec1 or whatever (the older one) in there for some time. The plastic is a PITA to cut. A cutting wheel works the best. It's easy to crack that hard plastic otherwise.

I had my Spec2 installed like yours, except only in the hand grab area. And yes, it took me 2 ashtrays. Did not like it at all. Damn near impossible to read since the visibility of the Profec sucks to begin with. I can barely read it where it is now, in the clock location. Someone needs to make a nice analog gauge BC. In fact, I want EVERYTHING aftermarket to have a real gauge instead of this digital crap I can't read when it's important.

Thank you! I have the new AEM analog wide band gauge and I LOVE it. It is so much easier for me to see a needle in a rough area and say "Ok, I'm pretty good where I am at" Rather than having to look over and search for a digital number, then look for the next number after the decimal to make sense of it all and decide if I am lean or not.
My friend Thomas hates the analog ones though. I don't get it. They are so much easier to read when you have .25 seconds to see what it says.

I personally like the wideband as a digital gauge. But like you said, your mind can get use to knowing what to look for and that can be bad for digital when you think your at 11.2 but you are at like 13.2 under boost.
All other gauges I completely agree 100 % should be analog. Digital is useless. Analog/digital Sweeper gauges just make sense no matter how old they are.

its personal preference, but even so- digital is far more accurate between two gauges of comparable quality in the same form factor throughout the same range.
