I just picked up a 1986 spoiler and brake light to put on my 1985 non-turbo, but I don’t know where to start with the 3rd brake light wiring. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

The 86 had a hole cut out in the sheetmetal of the hatch to accommodate the bulbs and wiring and make the bulbs accessible for replacement.

cut that same sized hole in your hatch or get creative with LED's and skip cutting the big hole.

Drill the holes necessary for mounting and wiring and seal it from leaking.

Fish the wires through the hatch sheetmetal sides and up to the boots that contain the wires for the defroster circuit.

continue running the wires back down the body sheetmetal to the rear of the car and use the circuit diagram in the FSM

to find the harness, then identify the brake light wires to patch the hatch stoplight wires into.

tl;dr: cut, fish, splice
