All
There was very large Exploit that VB acknowledged on the 7th/8th. Because of this, our site had been hacked and injected with hundreds of entries of malicious websites.
In order to protect our user's private information, I brought the site down.
I spent several hours trying to clean the injection to no success.
I worked for several more hours upgrading to the latest version of VBulletin.
Doing this addressed the security issue and repaired the database.
Its up and running now. But I obviously have more work and clean up to do.
Please be patient while I am doing this.
In the meantime, the forum is functional again.
Thanks!
Alex

Thanks for saving my sanity… when I went to get my Z31 fix this morning, shortness of breath and panic set in… had visions of losing Z31P like I lost Z31.com … glad all is well with this site.

Oh, wow. That explains a lot. Thanks Alex. Your work is well appreciated. It would be a big loss to our community without you and ASCO's support.

Glad the site is back up. Does anyone notice it running slower than before? I noticed that certain threads (that had multiple pages on the old version) take awhile to load.
amreboot: (2013-10-10 19:26:33)
I am rebuilding the Site Search Indexing right now. It takes a good long time.
Yes, the new site is a bit slower. This is actually a known issues with VB5. There are work arounds to help. I haven't done anything yet......

Thank you for working to keep z31performance going alex.
G-E: (2013-10-11 04:58:13)

amreboot: (2013-10-15 19:01:46)
Yup. I know that. Nothing I can do about it until the next revision comes out. Its a known bug.
Kingman: (2013-10-15 23:28:33)
Good work thanks Alex! Is there a way to show not only "unread posts" or new posts but posts that are week or so old even if they've been read? Been driving me crazy along with being logged out on my phone just about every time I navigate away from the site. Wasn't an issue before…
reddzx: (2013-10-16 16:04:35)
I appreciate all your hard work Alex, but I am really unhappy with this new format. Its slow slow slow, no email, PM section sucks, the only good thing I see is the new Z31P header.
300zxturboftw: (2013-10-16 16:45:45)
Hey Alex, I'm sure you are still working things through on the site, but is there a way you can incorporate a # of posts per page for each thread as GE stated because I can't get into certain threads from timing out trying to load all posts. Thanks!
Z_Karma: (2013-10-16 18:00:21)
Using Chrome, win 7, It doesn't keep me logged in after checking the "Remember Me" box in the Login dropdown. Even after clearing the browser cache and cookies.
Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue.
amreboot: (2013-10-16 19:51:30)
I am getting the same problem as well in Firefox.
The site does seem to run better in Internet Explorer.
One thing I did in Firefox is to allow Firefox itself to remember the password vs a cookie. This seems to work.
So if your browser asks you to save the password (as a pop up), allow it.
edicer2: (2013-10-16 21:13:28)
I noticed it will say there are 2 pages and when i click to go to the next page it just goes to the top of the page and there isnt a second page? A good example was this page. Smiles arent working either.
amreboot: (2013-10-16 22:44:49)
For the time being, users can select their own setting for posts per page.
To do this…
>Click your screen name top right of page
>User settings
>Account tab
>About 2/3 down, change Posts per Page to whatever you want. I recommend 20 or 30 posts per page.
Z_Karma: (2013-10-16 23:15:28)
Both Chrome and Firefox save my Login and Password (well Chrome did until i deleted the password info and re-entered it, now the pop-up disappears to fast to click it because it reloads the page.)
But when i check the box for keep me logged in, it doesn't.
In other words, In Chrome, I can have the board open in one tab. If i right click on the z31P logo and say "open in another tab" I have to log in again (info is saved) on that new tab.
Fixed… as i was typing this (in Firefox, which i hardly ever use) I remembered that the shortcut in my bookmarks toolbar in Chrome, referenced the "Recent Activity" option of the old board. I deleted that and now it's just "http://z31performance.com".
I also cleared out the cookies for the site and updated my Java version.
1artworkz: (2013-10-17 16:52:49)
Great. Navigation buttons at the bottom of the page. Next, page buttons in the post lists?

flatfoot: (2013-10-18 03:31:16)
Thank you for all the hard work. As repeatedly stated this place is a gold mine of information
wbnethery3: (2013-10-18 05:39:32)
Using Chrome and Win7, I am having several problems with the forum:
- log in but screen does not refresh showing my username at the top; have to click on "Blogs" and then back to "Forums" for it to refresh
- "latest" posts are not, in fact, the latest posts; I posted something, but it does not show in the stream of most recent posts. That list looks static and frozen since about 4:00 on the 17th
- when I click "remember me" on the log in dialog box, it doesn't; if I close the browser and come back to Z31P, it forces me to log in again; I have not tried going to the blogs page, then back to forums as described above, but I think I accidentally did something similar and found that I was still logged in, just not when I went to the main page in a new browser session
There's probably other stuff I'm forgetting, but those are the most annoying things… relatively minor annoyances, but still things that need to be fixed.
Thanks!
wbnethery3: (2013-10-18 05:43:13)
Just tested the "remember me" feature by closing the browser, then entering the main website address in a new browser window. Sure enough, the main screen does not show me to be logged in, but when I click on "Blogs" it then shows my username at the top of the page. I am then able to click on "Forums" and it shows me logged in. Don't know if that helps troubleshoot the problem or not but figured I'd mention it.
wbnethery3: (2013-10-18 05:53:16)
Cleared the cookies and cache and seem to have resolved the "remember me" problem.
To be more precise about the "Latest Posts" comment above, there are actually three different places one can see a similar type of information (which is a bit confusing):
- the "Latest Activity" tab near the top of the "Forum" section
- the "Last Post" entry to the right of each forum name and to the right of each thread within each forum
- the "Latest Topics" pane to the right of the "Forums" pane on the main page
It is the "Latest Activity" and "Latest Topics" which appear to be frozen.
G-E: (2013-10-18 07:01:28)
This happens to me too if I connect to the site via bookmark, www.z31p… but if I click the logo it redirects to z31performance.com and shows me logged in
I believe this is cookie related, prefixed with www doesn't know I'm logged in, but any link without www does
G-E: (2013-10-18 07:03:29)
btw guys, go into your user settings under account and change your maximum posts per page manually, alex unlocked 40 per page at my request and works fine
G-E: (2013-10-18 14:59:28)
Alex, can you somehow clear all the subscriptions from everyone, currently any thread I've ever replied in, hundreds of them, all notify me of replies by email
Obviously I can turn off notification, but then subscribing to anything becomes pointless altogether, and I don't subscribe to many threads as a rule, I'd only like to stay subbed to some of my own
I figure if you can clear every sub, a blanket reset, people can then go back and add the few they want… see what you can do
amreboot: (2013-10-18 15:00:43)
Yeah, I can clear subscriptions.... doing that now....
Kingman: (2013-10-18 22:20:59)
Any way to search topics and not posts? Still being booted off the site every few minutes.
amreboot: (2013-10-19 03:25:03)
I change max posts per page to 30. I hope this helps all.
michaelp: (2013-10-19 13:57:13)
Helps immensely. Threads no longer Fatal Error and time out. lol Thanks again dude.
shromy: (2013-10-21 16:38:47)
I still show 141 subscriptions. Not that I care.
Switchback Motions: (2013-10-23 13:20:28)
This new layout and such does not work nearly as well as any of the old. I find myself visiting the forums less and less because all of the simple navigation is gone. I preferred NEW POSTS over LATEST ACTIVITY. Oh well, I`ll be back when things are running smoother I guess.
inqui-Z-tor: (2013-10-23 13:43:01)
It's all good … maybe some will discover a "life" outside the forum?? LOL!
floridaZ: (2013-10-25 00:47:45)
"Life" is for the weak. Thanks for the work restoring the forum Alex. Hopefully in time some of the smaller issues will get worked out… I'm not gonna lie, I miss being able to see all the new posts/active threads in a single list.
amreboot: (2013-10-25 02:04:34)
Thanks for the comment man!
I know, it sucks for the time being.
I could go back but it is soooo much work and the site would be down for days while I have to rebuild the database.
There is no a doubt in my mind that the site will be better functioning with new updates in a very short time. VBulletin is working hard to produce the updates that addresses many of the problems/bugs.
G-E: (2013-10-25 05:46:13)
In the meantime, can you disable the auto-save while writing.... I get invalid response dialogs frequently popping up
amreboot: (2013-10-25 06:05:40)
Done!
G-E: (2013-10-25 13:13:10)
Something must be wonky, I'm getting those dialogs even more often now!
1artworkz: (2013-10-25 16:52:16)
My wish list:
⢠Get rid of the ERROR (pop-up) "Invalid server response. Please try again." Geez, please, not again and again and again …
⢠Last page button at the top of the page.
⢠"View Posts Since Last Visit" button.
Tomakze: (2013-10-26 00:17:48)
I wanted to report a weird error I noticed on my work computer. After logging in, it won't show I have logged in and acts like I'm still logged out until I enter a forum, scroll to the bottom, and select "Default Style (vB4 - Incompatible)". suddenly I show up as logged in, and can even switch back to vB5 and stay logged in until I leave the page. Super weird. I didn't notice this problem on my home computer though, so I don't know what it is.
RedDemon: (2013-11-02 01:34:04)
I only have two things that is bothering me with this new layout.
1) Can you in any way change the black background to a different colour, maybe going with a light blue like it used to be, simple design? anything other than this unattractive black. It's a real turn off.
2) can you add a "Last" button when the post exceeds 1 page? It becomes really slow to navigate when you have to click on a post, then go to the top right to click in a box and then type the page number you want to go to.
I can't wait when this site gets back to its old layout!
flatfoot: (2013-11-02 20:47:45)
Thanks for putting in the time and effort on this board.
I am still getting a random post without a topic when I log in and click on the button for "todays new posts"
Dr. Pepper PhD.: (2013-11-04 21:29:54)
Just click the filter for "Today" or "Last week" and it will clean up all the posts you already read.
reddzx: (2013-11-08 15:40:56)
^^^ I agree with all of this. This new format is a definite downgrade
DeleriousZ: (2013-11-08 15:53:38)
It feels like traffic has dropped significantly as well, I spend way less time reading stuff on here now because there's just not much new content.
amreboot: (2013-11-08 16:04:59)
I am sorry about the new version guys.
But there is nothing I can do about this. The database got majorly corrupted and the only way I could restore (quickly) was to upgrade to the next version.
We are all going to have to be patient until VB5 is better developed.
I hate to sound like a jerk, but the comments above aren't necessary.... there is nothing I can do about it.
Z_Karma: (2013-11-08 19:36:23)
I agree, but on the other hand I'd argue that some of that content wasn't worth reading in the first place..
Fall and Winter are typically a slow time on the board anyway, the changeover just exacerbated the effect.
Keep Calm and Zed On.
G-E: (2013-11-09 10:51:35)
The only thing we really need is the new posts page, everything stems from that
If we can have a good/simple/efficient way of seeing a new post (like the original z31.com you couldn't miss it) that spurs people to read it, chronologically ordered just makes it that much faster to glance over
The biggest gripe I have is that we just see the threads were updated, there's no lead-in to steer people to read anything, it's more like a library now

http://z31performance.com/special/vi…ssages/763287-
What are these?
I clicked New Topics and those showed up. One of them was written by 1artworks.
BLOZ UP: (2013-11-13 16:00:08)
+1 Notification system is dumb and takes too many clicks to mark as read.
Quick editor sucks (in latest release version of Chrome). Anytime I try to place the cursor at a previous position in my post, and start typing it moves the cursor to the end. God damn it's annoying.
For a couple seconds after I post, it won't let me scroll up the page. It quickly scrolls back down to the end.
Javascript fail.
1artworkz: (2013-11-13 21:08:52)
These are private massages between members. They should not show up in New Topics of Latest Activity but they do.
amreboot: (2013-11-13 21:29:44)
They are not private messages.
Those are visitor messages. Visitor messages were part of the last setup as well and they did show up in the Latest Activity.
Make sure you are clicking Private Message
G-E: (2013-11-14 00:06:28)
Can we disable visitor msg? I don't think there's any particular need for them, much like the whole blog roll
amreboot: (2013-11-14 00:46:54)
Yeah, I have been thinking about disabling it.
DeleriousZ: (2013-11-14 19:53:01)
+1 for disabling them, they're pretty useless IMO.
Filipe: (2013-11-16 17:55:08)
Yeah, if its not slowing anything down, don't bother..^^^
Kennedy: (2013-11-17 20:10:09)
Hmm.. stange. Every time i try to send message IE11 is asking if i want to save file.
After posting i need to refresh page becouse it does not do anything. I can't upload even pictures becouse of that. I had to start use Firefox.
I do not remember having this problem before.
amreboot: (2013-11-18 02:00:40)
Yes, using IE 11 does cause this issue.
Resolution: Put http://z31performance.com into IE 11 Compatibility View Settings. Close and restart IE 11.
DeleriousZ: (2013-11-18 16:21:54)
Best solution, stop using IE before it gives you cancer lol
wbnethery3: (2013-12-24 14:01:10)
Two comments about this newer format (I don't want to go back through all 97 posts, so if you've addressed either of them, please direct me to the post #):
I've noticed that when someone edits their reply to a post, it generates a second notification message. Also, the notification messages don't clear the little counter at the top after they've been read like Facebook does. I'm assuming that is styled to emulate Facebook, so is there any way to do it correctly? It just requires more clicking to deal with it than is necessary.
Another thing about this new system I've noticed is that there is a significant latency between when I type a letter and when it shows up on the screen. I can actually type fast enough that it sometimes skips keystrokes. I am not a computer genius by any means (i.e. use of the word latency may be incorrect) but this is quite annoying. For long posts, I'm almost inclined to open a text editor on my computer, do all the typing in it, then copy/paste into this box. I've also noticed that sometimes the text editor gets confused when I hit certain keystrokes it does the wrong thing (Backspace and End for example). All of this feels like it's due to the way the editor operates. I am just registering my dissatisfaction with that part of the overall experience of using the website. I'll continue using it because it's absolutely the BEST place to get Z31 info… I just wanted to let you know.
Thanks for everything you do!
amreboot: (2013-12-24 21:40:58)

We are working on strategy to go back to the very stable release of VB4.
I will post updates and ETAs.

Maybe now would be a good time to investigate other forum software, ie. not vb? How is phpbb doing these days?
adroitcaptor: (2014-01-20 21:59:36)
FWIW I would contribute if we could get a solid forum that I can actually use… or if it would somehow help.
Pace: (2014-01-21 22:06:00)
Anything that can be done about mobile posts and spacing? It seems that replies go through as one solid paragraph every time, even when edited.
wbnethery3: (2014-01-22 03:35:02)
So ^this^ was nearly a month ago… no updates or ETA's yet? This site is one I depend on to help me get my car where I want it, and I know a lot of others feel the same way. I use wranglerforum.com and it is a solid platform. I also use ford-trucks but it's a little too commercial (okay, a LOT too commercial) for my taste (but it's a significantly larger user base). Even editing this post is driving me crazy… something simple like positioning my cursor back up where I messed up punctuation, and as soon as I try to type a question mark, it jumps to the end of the posting and puts it there… once I end the paragraph, I'm able to go back and fix it.
I would assume you have all kinds of stats that show usage and are getting plenty of feedback from users who do far more than I do here. I just thought I'd ring the bell and see if anyone's home… [archived image: smile.png]
Thanks…
