Update on New site Folks: Test Website is Up. VBulletin is installing.

Next, convert/import phpBB database.

Sorry for the delaying in things. I am making more progress on the site every day.

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

Who made the choice to go to vbulletin?

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

Kyle and I made the decision to migrate to vB 4. We hope to modernize the forum somewhat with new features, while making not making it intrusive or loading up on advertising.

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

so since the first time you announced this website, vbulletin wasn't even installed? that shouldn't take more than an hour or two…

not that i give a crap, but thats some pretty slow progress.

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

VBulletin only took 1 hour to install.

The slowness was me having time available, DNS resolution problems between the two hosts (BIG FACTOR HERE), and now IMPEX problems trying to convert from phpBB to VB.

Careless,

When you have a new family that takes priority #1, a high demanding job, schooling/education, and other projects around house, maybe then you might understand the slow progress.

I suggest that you watch Disney's Bambi where you learn that "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all".

so where is the new site? im kind of lost to whats happening lol

amreboot: (2013-01-02 01:04:05)

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

There is a temporary URL that has been created.

Its going to be kept private for testing purposes.

Once the private site has shown to be good, we will transition the forum.

Careless: (2013-01-02 01:10:51)

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

well, amreboot… I guess you're the only person on the planet with a family, a "demanding" job, and other things to do around the house. Yep.. only person in the world. Oh, and you also memorize lines from Disney movies. I guess that's probably where all your extra time goes.

re-read your original post. you said "vbulletin is INSTALLING". I.e - since the last time you announced the website was being "upgraded" you didn't even have vbulletin installed. at least that's what I got from the way you worded it. but eh, it's just easier to throw insults at people, right?

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

you seem to not understand what i was saying either. but whatever. like i said, i don't really care but it just seems like extremely slow progress, regardless of DNS issues. at work when I encounter small problems that prevent us from doing work on remote sites, we do it locally. not only is it faster, but it can also be deployed onto the server at another point in time.

waiting for hosts to resolve issues will surely prolong the development time for something.

zachary.ard: (2013-01-02 01:32:39)

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

OK guys -

The development of the new forum has been slow - but at the end of the day, Kyle and I can't do it because we just aren't that technically capable, and Alex has had work and his Microsoft certifications to tend to. So we've done what we can with the time we have had available.

Trust me, I've been paying for two hosting packages out of my pocket for 3 months now, so I'd like to see things get tested and perform the migration as much as anyone else. Unfortunately, that has taken a while. Also - we aren't trying to load up with advertisements to generate funds, so hiring someone from outside to do this isn't really in the budget either.

We'll get the new forum tested as best we can, to deliver the best possible user experience improvement that we can - I want to make this place better as much as anyone. At this point, this forum hasn't been updated in 5-6 years, so I don't think an extra month or so will kill anyone. We are, at least, making the effort to go forward with it.

Thanks!

Zack

As already noted, perception via reading posts can be a challenge. Your experience, expertise and available resources help to shape your views. I acknowledge your authority on the technology.

I know nothing of the expertise, experience or technology available available to z31performance. So I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm not financing any of these upgrades, they can take as much time as they want. They can proceed in any manner they want. If I don't like it .. I can just excuse my support or participation. Why question or complain, if it doesn't help? LOL!

Import of this current site's (phpbb) database has been successful. Obviously its outdated, but none the less. Its good.

I will update more everyday now.

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

so whats the workback schedule on the projected launch date? for speedier deployment, you could push it to the main domain faster if you make it a barebones install with just functionality in mind and lock in the standard template with just a logo change- then if you want to "asco-fy" it, you can create a dummy moderator account that has the new asco template installed.

never do testing on a real account. if you lock yourself out- you'll have to manually change db tables to get the default theme back in order to do simple things like login/logout.

keep the dummy account open in a second browser application or sandbox/incognito tab and use that to do rapid testing of code/graphic changes.

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

Here is the plan

I just blew away the test site

I am creating the actual new z31performance.com site with VB installed

I am going to prep it for the switchover.

Suspend the current phpbb z31p site to prevent user postings

On the old host, download *current* backup of the phpbb mysql database

Using Impex, import the old forum to new

Do maintenance cleanup

Because DNS isn't 100% yet, I am going to go on the old host and point the site to the new IP manually.

This will effectively bring up the new VB site almost immediately.

While the new site won't be 100% perfect during the first few weeks of live, people can still use it.

The down time will only be a few hours while the mysql database is downloaded and uploaded. Obviously some config time is needed.

When?

Planning this weekend or the next. I need to coordinate with Zach.

I know a proper Notice of Website Down is needed.

This is all tentative, btw.

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

consider increasing the php memory size from default 64 to something like 256 at least. VB has imagecache functions that are going to cause a lot of time outs and memory errors when people upload pictures that are resized and cached into a temp folder on the server. you might want to also configure the php timeout length as well.

are you using an external database manager, or are you using the phpmyadmin applet on the webserver? i would upload using an external application. it's much quicker and doesn't time out at all.

also, does IMPEX do database to database on localhost? or does it require an installed database and an uploaded file to do its import/exporting?

if it could be done over localhost connection, it would be super fast.

amreboot: (2013-01-11 13:52:13)

Re: Updates on New Site - 01/01/13

The new site will be launched on 01/20/13!

While the testing has been great so far, the new site won't be 100% done.

It will be very functional. After the launch, there will be a lot of polishing to be done.

The only problems that are somewhat expected after the transition are user accounts.

During the testing, it appears that some user account passwords did not carry over.

This is why confirming your email is so very important.

IF ANYONE EXPERIENCES PROBLEMS PLEASE ME AT am300zx@gmail.com

Avatars coming back? Signatures? Could we get some rage smilies?

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

Yes, I am still working on that. Ran into issues during the import. But I will resolve it.

Hey … I'm "IN" ..

Interesting .. had some issues via iPad .. mostly operator error (not knowing where to find things on the iPad) but using the PC, I didn't have to clear the cache??

Despite the glitches, hassles and under-appreciated experts .. THANKS for the efforts.

Consider this .. While there is almost always a better way of doing something …

1- The experts that know better, often aren't providing resources (labor and funding) of any signficance

2 - We wouldn't be z31 enthusiasts if we always did it the "experts" way *wink* … LOL!

Twisted`Z: (2013-01-19 23:27:10)

Well now that the new site is up and what not, I am liking it. Though, it's a tad confusing and seems backwards from the old site. But will get used to it.

Though it's already being tended to; needs moar avatar and emoticon smilies and allow BB img tags in signature permissions. :P

Andrevas: (2013-01-20 10:53:25)

I'm having the exact problem described here: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthre…staying-unread

So, either the board is config'd as described there, it's setup to use cookies for users to track unread threads (which should be server database), or both.

I'd also like to point out it took three attempts to post this as the first two, using quick reply, locked up the page.

amreboot: (2013-01-20 16:26:35)

Fixed the "Read" problem. Unfortunately while doing so, it marked all as "Unread". But going forward, problem resolved.

Fixed the Signatures.

I was able to import 71.1% of the attachments. Thats the best I could do.

And for avatars… Per VBulletin, they do not recommend importing them due to the high failure rate.

Talking with VBulletin, in short they summarized and said the PHPBB3 is one of the more harder/inconsistent imports due to the "SALT PREFIX" that PHPBB3 creates.

reddzx: (2013-01-20 16:52:45)

so does that mean there will be no avatars?

amreboot: (2013-01-20 17:04:54)

Oops, forgot to enable it.

Should be good now. You can upload and link avatars

zachary.ard: (2013-01-20 18:16:39)

Thanks!

adamvann3: (2013-01-20 19:47:43)

And I was digging the quick reply!

Couple of security things. I enjoyed that z31p could not be viewed without logging it. Now I know anyone can join but I enjoyed the private nature of the forum. Now it seems you can view anything without logging in. At minimum I would like member's ride to be private and hidden without logging into the forum.

We also need a new dope banner [archived image: wink.png]

Twisted`Z: (2013-01-20 21:35:51)

Suggestion??

Can we get the editing privileges spruced up a bit in the market place? There is no edit button except for recent posts, can this be changed so that the OP can change their original posts? (Market place is the only place I'd care for this…) I ask this because my FS ad is a total mess on top of the fact that I can't edit it to remove items that have already sold or to change price tags (lowered some prices) or add new items without jumbling up the thread with useless one line posts…

8)

Hopefully others would like this too?

NissanEgg: (2013-01-21 03:40:48)

These sections of the forum need to be private without logging in to see them:

Member's Rides

Social Lounge

Classifieds

Dope banner would be nice! Say like over at S20-forum.com every time you refresh the main page a different SR-powered car is shown at the top, but here with different Z31's.

amreboot: (2013-01-21 03:48:25)

Ok. Increased back-end performance for the entire site. This should fix the problem with quick reply locking up threads.

Overall, the entire site should run more smoothly.

G-E: (2013-01-21 04:52:52)

jaqattack02: (2013-01-22 14:19:10)

All users should be able to do this now.

Careless: (2013-01-22 17:39:28)

haven't had any issues with the site or the quick reply yet. only back-linked pages being non-existant. looking at the URL's that have been created, I don't think even an .htaccess redirect could fix that. it is what it is.

Nissan_Nick: (2013-01-23 02:04:54)

?May be a stupid question but was there a reason we updated? or was it just to stay hip and cool.....

vegasZ31T: (2013-01-24 01:12:44)

Dont know if anybody else has this problem, but all the links to other threads in My Ride post now don't work, neither does the link to My Ride - which is my Signature.

Also I'm having to go through this new site searching by key word to find threads I either started or participated in.

When I search by VegasZ31T very few of the threads I posted in show up (which would have made it much simpler).

And you can't (or I can't find it) just click on a link and bring up every thread you have posted in.

I understand you may have some teething problems. Will these matters be addressed sometime in the future?

P.S., Quite frequently, it takes a very long time for my posts to actually post (which just happened). Now I just walk away for 15 minutes or so.

Guest: (2013-01-24 02:17:21)

Will there be a rep system?

Careless: (2013-01-24 04:12:50)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

this has already been mentioned.

there is a fix but it doesnt work 100%. but its better than nothing. its made by the same guy who made impex.

Pace: (2013-01-24 15:53:58)

What about enabling the auto image resize option? That and setting an image resolution limit would help to keep oversized pictures from blowing up the page on everyone's screen.

G-E: (2013-01-24 19:20:09)

I don't mind the image sizes being native, we just bitch at people who do it wrong until they fix it, secondly we can add the overflow option to hide the part that runs off screen so the formatting isn't messed up, people can still click on the image and view separately…

I just hate it when forums force us to have to click each thumbnail and back and thumbnail and back when there's 50 pictures and we have broadband ....

Twisted`Z: (2013-01-25 21:34:27)

Not sure if it was mentioned but will we be able to use [youtube] bb code?

MADMIKE: (2013-01-26 21:06:20)

Pm's are pretty handicapped now. The thread style is gone, or at least I have not found it. Now to see the whole chain I hop out and look for the rest in my inbox....

vegasZ31T: (2013-01-27 00:36:13)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

So, what's the best solution? Will the original links be reinstated as is or will it be necessary to go through the posts and enter new links?

Careless: (2013-01-27 02:25:20)

the best solution is to back up the current installation again, take the site down temporarily, or test the .htaccess modification on a subdomain, which requires copying the current db/installation over to another hosting home directory.

all of which is not hard, but takes time and resources.

Nissan_Nick: (2013-01-27 10:15:23)

NissanEgg: (2013-01-28 03:49:10)

SOmething about tonight but I cannot post anything or modify any of my post without the site freezing up.

vegasZ31T: (2013-01-28 04:43:29)

I would like to know if the old post "Edit" feature, as with the last program, will eventually be included with this new one? The reason I ask, is that I found it a very convenient way to record all the changes to my ride, on one page.

Also, your search feature, really doesn’t work well. I’ve tried to find all my posts by searching by my “name”, and very few show up: today 12, a few days ago 17, but there should be many more. We used to have one very convenient button for that.

There are other things, but I’m sure you have a lot to do to make this site as user friendly as the last.

I don’t really understand why you felt the need to change it (I thought it was the best of all the Nissan forums), but best wishes on bringing this new one up to par.

nismopu: (2013-01-28 13:26:02)

There were things a foot that basically wouldn't allow the old site to function any longer. It had to be changed to something else, I know not all the features work but they will soon.

reddzx: (2013-01-28 15:41:35)

I might as well chip in. I have not found a way to delete my post. An example is when I accidentally post the same reply twice and want to delete one of them.

Yep I also do not see the option to delete a post.

amreboot: (2013-01-28 16:23:34)

The post quick reply does not work. 5 out of the last 6 post I have made have been lost with a Z31performance not responding. The only successful post I have made with this new formayt is when I went to the GO ADVANCED route

vegasZ31T: (2013-02-01 19:37:38)

The only way I have made a post work, is to just click it and then walk away for 10-15 minutes, and let it do its thing.

DeleriousZ: (2013-02-01 19:40:40)

Really? What browser do you guys use? I've had zero issues like that in firefox.

FlyingT: (2013-02-01 20:31:00)

The REPLY function does not work. 6 out of the last 7 post I have made with this software change have been lost with a "Z31performance not responding" error.

It is so bad that I now type a sentence and post it BEFORE I edit and type the rest of the post. That way I only lose 1 sentence and not the entire post. Like this post, only took me 3 tries to post it. Copying and then pasting it after this happens does not work either, so if I don't paste what I type into a notepad document before I try and post it, I completely lose what I have type. Very frustrating.. Kinda like I am locked out from posting. This happens on both my work laptop and my own, both worked fine before the change over. So this is not on my end.

THIS IS SERIOUS

this does not mean that it's a site issue. it could mean that your browser is out of date or you have a scriptblocker that is preventing javascript or ajax from running on your computer or is blocking certain actions, as this WYSIWYG post editor is most likely javascript/jquery. infact, i know it is- it's a version of a javascript editor called "ckeditor" and it runs fine when your browser is updated.

Eww IE. I tried it on firefox, opera, and chrome. No problems.

I just tried to respond and the first time it locked, this time I am trying chrome and it worked. Maybe it is an IE9 issue.

amreboot: (2013-02-02 17:37:36)

I will look into this issue.

Although, I have never experienced the issue myself.

zachary.ard: (2013-02-03 16:34:28)

IE9 does have what is called "compatibility mode" It looks like a broken page inside of the Address bar. If you are having issues with IE9 and posting, click on the broken page. It should become lit up a blueish color. Try posting then and lets see if it works.

Asking whoever is actually doing the switchover:

So, if this site is temporary, and the links to my other posts aren't working on this site; then I assume there is no reason to update my links on this site - as they will more than likely go bad when you change again? Am I understanding what is happening correctly?

And, more importantly to me, will I be able to edit my posts - such as "MyRide" - on an ongoing basis in the forthcoming site?

FYI: I also noticed after the last couple posts, that when I post, some words join together.

zachary.ard: (2013-02-03 17:38:06)

The edit and deletion of posts/threads over a certain period of time has been disabled, and was disabled on the old forum as well before the switchover.

You are able to create replies to the thread concerning your build to show updates. We will also be working to install a journal system to better keep track of "Member Rides" without them being actual threads/posts. This will make them editable, and comments can be left, but makes moderation a bit easier.

The site is live. This is not a test forum.

Damn shame I still can't edit sales threads..... Makes selling bulk listings a royal pain.... Can sales forum be implemented similar to the blogs?

sorry spit balling. I don't even look at my thread much anymore, I'm getting asked for the same parts that sold a month or two ago....

Please change the sale thread editing.

FlyingT: (2013-02-28 15:35:33)

I have come to the conclusion that the problem I have with posting is because of IE9. If I take my time typing in a reply, I almost never am able to post it. I get "Z31P is not responding". If I type only 1 sentence, I am usually able to post it. But if I type more than a sentence or take my time typing it, I almost always have trouble and have to retype the entire post. if I highlight the post and copy it, I have to paste it into a document before I try and post it. If not, I lose the ability to paste it anywhere and have to retype it again.

Now, with chrome, I have never had any problems posting, only IE9.

I Just had this problem typing this post and pressing “post quick reply”. I get Z31P not responding. But pasting the entire post in I am able to post it.

I have never had this problem here before the change over to the new format or have I had this problem anywhere else. Could this be a compatibility problem between vBulletin and IE9?

vegasZ31T: (2013-03-06 03:45:38)

Some confusing stuff:

1. When I drop in as a visitor and search for vegasz31t, I get one page of results with about 11 topics and a total of about 21. However, I cannot go to the second page to see the next 10. When I log-in and then search, I get 21 topics all listed on one page. I have many more posts than that.

2. When I click on the vegasz31t link in any of my posts, then click on the “View Forum Posts” link, I get (I assume) all 137 posts that I have made.

3. When I dropped in earlier as a visitor, and even after I logged in, I was only able to see the first four Forum categories - as the entire Marketplace category was non-existent. I eventually searched for one of my posts, then I just backed up to the Forum page by clicking on the links at the top of the page: Forum + Announcements and Events+ Announcements: Site and Forum-related + Updates on New Site - 01/19/13, and the Marketplace category showed up.

4. Included in # 3 above, initially there were no New Posts when you clicked on that link on the Home page.

5. All of the above I can live with,as it is just part of your teething problems. However, I would very much like to refresh my “My Ride” = “84 300ZX Turbo 50th AE” topic, as the links to other topics I started with the details of the modifications, are all no good anymore. Plus, I have some updates to add to My Ride, as it has been a long time since I have been able to update it.

Regards,

P.S., I just had to go back in and seperate words that joined together.

I'm pretty much losing interest in this site due the the new format

vegasZ31T: (2013-03-19 19:10:12)

What is the reasoning for not allowing posts to be edited?

DeleriousZ: (2013-03-19 19:13:53)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

IIRC it was due to issues with for sale adds. Not sure tho.

reddzx: (2013-03-19 21:24:04)

there was a dispute over an item for sale in the past and a seller altered his FS thread to cover the fact that the item the buyer received was not the one posted in the ad. Also due to disagreements over price and shipping details.

MADMIKE: (2013-03-19 21:27:14)

I was thinking of circumventing the forsale issue by just creating a blog post of the items, with a link in the for sale forum and my profile. I do more on friggin facebook these days than I do on the forum.

reddzx: (2013-03-19 21:31:50)

Yeah but FB is full of flakes

vegasZ31T: (2013-03-19 21:49:11)

How about not allowing editing of posts just in the For Sale category? Doesn't seem like there would be any potential bone of contention in all of the other categories.

amreboot: (2013-03-19 21:53:22)

Hey guys

I just wanted to give you all an update on things.

Although I am the Administrator here, I am not the site/forum owner.

All the work I do goes through an approval process first through Zach.

Very much lately Zach has been extremely busy. Not to down play the current issues, but they are not as high as a priority for him as other things.

I will see about getting myself more control over the forum so that I can work on requests from users.

Thanks

Alex

vegasZ31T: (2013-03-19 22:24:19)

Thanks for the update, it helps! I too have been looking for other alternatives to keep track of ongoing changes to my Z31, in one convenient place. You've got the premier site for Z31 technology. I would hate to see people gravatating elsewhere. Obtaining good information and viable feedback is getting harder to do.

NissanXRMA: (2013-03-21 17:39:56)

Ok, sounds like a plan.

Ill email about every-time i login it goes to the mobile format on a PC. The scattered new post, since last logged in, ect. The activity feed? The lack of editing posts, the message length bs, the lack of [img] formatting, the max photo's per post, the modern new look, the loss of /forum links, ect.

Little things, but whatever. mountains out of mole hills right?

amreboot: (2013-03-21 20:26:33)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

OK, lets talk about these;

1) The mobile format on a PC. This is the first time I have heard about this being an issue. Clear your browsers cache and reset your browser to defaults

2) Scattered new post. I agree that this needs to be cleaned up.

3) Activity Feed. I am not a fan of it. It was turned on by default. Its not so easy just hit a button to turn off, but it needs to be.

4) The editing of posts. I am going to turn this back on. I just need approval from Zach. It was his decision to turn it off when he got ownership of the last forum and he wanted to continue of it being off.

5) Message length. I will turn it off

6) IMG formatting. What are you referring to? Are you not able to link IMGs properly? Works fine for me. Could be another reason for you to clear your cache.

7) Max Photo Per Post. Its at 10 I think. What would you feel would be a better number limit. Unlimited is not going to work.

8) Modern Look. Well, this is the latest and most popular forum, so there will be a new modern look to it. But we can change the theme to be less annoying.

9) Loss of /forum linking. Sorry to say, but there is nothing we can do about this. Thats the result of importing one forum language to another. Gotta move on.

Anything else?

Careless: (2013-03-21 21:06:57)

"clear your cache"… LOL… I can definitely tell you work or have worked as network service technician.

allow me to shed a bit more light.

1) make sure you don't have a plugin on your browser that has switched your "Browser Agent" to mobile platform. This effectively tricks the website into defaulting to mobile. It's NOT a cookie or cache issue. It's a browser setting issue. These exist to facilitate mobile website development on the computer rather than using a phone to check if a website looks right. I use this all the time myself.

2) I have no idea what "scattered new post" means. I don't see it.

3) I like the activity feed. It's not terrible. it's just another way of seeing what people are posting on and what's a popular topic.

4) Meh. just make another post.

5) Good riddance.

6) Again, clearing your cache isn't going to fix image upload issues.

7) It doesn't matter if it's 10 or Unlimited, you effectively make it unlimited by making more than 1 post with 10 pictures in each. So contesting that it's going to be a resource hog with unlimited images enabled is a moot point. It's still technically unlimited if there is no post limit.

8) Just because we drive 30 year old cars, it doesn't mean the forum has to look like it's 30 years old. There's nothing really wrong with the modern look, people just aren't used to it. There is probably a better theme. But there really isn't any obnoxious or annoying about it… Of course I could create a theme for the website, but I've been told theres no money in the budget… LOL.. sure… if I were stupid or easily convinced, I would believe it.

9) Good - maybe ppl will search more now :-)

Guest: (2013-03-21 21:07:27)

Youtube embedding. It shouldn't be a multi-step process.

Photo limit. 15 should be ok or at least better than 10. But does it make a difference if we make one post with 20 pics or 2 posts with 10 each? Asking because I don't know.

MADMIKE: (2013-03-21 21:12:43)

I think that blogs and Albums should be a subforum off the root as the new entries function is useless. There is no real way to browse these without searching.

Also I think a designed splash page would be nice, I find the my350z top bar very functional to get to different subforums and they are running an older version of Vbulletin

I have the photobucket app. I upload to that, grab the img code and post here. That is really the easiest way. I just tried to insert img from mobile, and it just won't work.

To upload from pc you click on the icon (has arrow pointing to it)

I think I know why I was having problems posting here using Windows 7 IE9. I was using the 32 bit version of it and almost every time I tried to post, I would get Z31Performance not responding when I tried to post it. I switched to the 64 bit version last week and I have not had any problems with posting here anymore. Just a FYI if anyone is have posting issues, switch to the 64 bit version of IE9, or use some other browser like Chrome or Firefox.

One more issue. I know I know, I complain a lot.

When you quote someone or edit your post, with imgs, we can no longer grab the urls, it shows the pic in the edit/quote window. On other forums, there is a button to the side that lets you switch between the url and pic. Could we get that? Please.

Done!

G-E: (2013-04-16 05:13:46)

I just went back to read the last 4-5 pages of this since I didn't really pay attention since things started rolling …

I do agree that forsale threads should be like blogs/journals where subsequent text should be added as a timeline of sorts, no editing required (save old details for posterity/auditing)

I don't necessarily think we should be able to REPLY on forsale threads, on other forums it just becomes a bumpfest or lots of "wow I can't believe it's not butter! glws!" posts

What might be handy if possible to implement is a button to fire off an automated email to admins to mark a thread for deletion… I know things like my pre-buy thread had a very specific purpose and expiry date, and since I'm not allowed to delete content, notifying someone that I want it deleted should be easier

I don't understand the whole colour scheme and bolding of threads, can we not simplify it as before? to unbold just completely read or bold for unread posts? The what's new feed is good to see what's threads had updates but only the last 15 trending… and my complaint with it is that it's too bulky, what's new should resemble the old z31.com with one liners that zip you to the last reply, not extra junk… then we could have MORE items listed

I also wonder the logic behind locally hosting pics, I thought space was one of the big concerns previously? I'd think the upload local should only be for avatars no?

I'm sure I'm forgetting more, but that's forefront for me

Careless: (2013-04-16 11:59:02)

upload local barely even works.

it always says the photo is too big.

i've tried with a number of different disk sizes and image sizes, and it always says the same thing.

amreboot: (2013-04-16 13:04:43)

{{#if:| wrote:|Quote:}}

Tell me what an adequate size should be for a web hosting point of view. I'd say 800x600, but maybe 1024x768.

I can adjust those settings.

Careless: (2013-04-16 13:58:42)

If possible, install ImageCache with GD2 or ImageMagick support, and set up a profile to resize anything posted to 800x600.

When the first user to the page visits the posting, it will take some server memory to crunch the size of the photo down. Then every following member who views the page will see the processed photo and it will not take any more server load.

Limit the upload size to 1600 wide.

How much storage space is on the account?

Senior vs. Junior vs. Newbie

I think (?) it's a combination of how long you've been "here" and post count?

Senior status appears to be from Oct 2009 and back

Junior status appears to be from Nov 2009 to Jan/Feb 2012

Newbies status appears to be from Mar 2012 to present time

mizagyu: (2013-04-26 04:30:15)

I found this forum browsing a support topic in vBulletin.com. I had to join just to to tell you this is CRAZY DUMB!

It's not hard at all to redirect PHPBB3 link to the new vB4 links. Specific instructions are here: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showp…1&postcount=72 You can download the required 404.php from the same topic.

Why is it dumb? Well ALL your old internal links are now broken. NOT a good user experience. Plus, ALL old external links are now broken. Other sites linking to topics here are broken, ALL search engine links indexed are broken. You're wasting years of reputation and link building. Other than simply deleting the URL, it's the surest way to kill a site.

P.S. Also upgrade to 4.2.1, and don't display your forum version (make it harder for bot hacking scripts).
