Z31 A.I.V. Air injection valve (1986-1989)

The Air injection valve sends secondary air to the exhaust system just before the catylic converter to aid in removing emissions from the exhaust gases. When the exhaust pressure is below atmospheric pressure (negative Pressure), the secondary air is sent to the exhaust. When Pressure is above atmospheric pressure, the reed valve in the AIV unit prevents gasses to be sent back to the intake tube.

The AIV is controled by the ECU by activating and deactavating the AIV Control Solenoid. The AIV Control Solenoid cuts intake manifold vacuum signal to the Air Injection Valve in response to the ON/OFF signal from the ecu. When the solenoid is off, the Vacuum signal from the intake is cut. As the control unit outputs an ON signal, the Coil in the solenoid pulls the plunger down and feeds vacuum to the AIV.
