Z31 Z31 Detonation Sensor *Knock* (VG30ET)[edit]

The Detonation Sensor is located on the Right side of the engine block right behind the alternator mounting bracket on the Turbo Models.

What does the Detonation Sensor Do[edit]

The Detonation Sensor (Knock Sensor) on the VG30ET engine is only designed for emergencies and not normal operation. The ignition timing is pre-programmed into the ECU, including basic anti-knock settings.

This sensor is only really used up to about 3200 rpm.

How it works: When the sensor detects knock in that RPM range, it sends a signal to the ECU to retard the timing slightly, helping to reduce knock.
