In 1998, to keep Z-car interest alive, Nissan launched a restoration program
in which they purchased original 240Zs, professionally restored them, and sold
them at dealerships for roughly '''$24,000 – $28,000'''.
On October 31, 1998, Nissan officially ended the Z Store project after only
37 were completed, with a total of 40 cars documented.

Three museum-grade restoration shops in Southern California were commissioned to perform ground-up restorations, bringing the cars to better-than-new condition. Engines, 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmissions, and differentials were remanufactured using new Nissan parts. Suspension and ancillary components were replaced with as-original parts upgraded with modern materials and technology.

These cars were literally like new and carried the same factory guarantee as modern Nissan products. The only drawback was the overwhelming demand — buyers faced a 30-day wait for delivery through the 10 Nissan dealerships franchised to sell them.
