{{ForumImport |op_user=togofaster1126 |op_date=2016-04-28 23:22:37 |post_count=4 |archive_url=/Z31performance_archive/forum/z31-repairs-forums/engine-mechanical/25692-timing-belt-near-hot-weld.html }} '''togofaster1126:''' (2016-04-28 23:22:37) So i was welding a piece onto my timing cover and while doing so may have heated my brand new timing belt a bit. I took a picture of the weld i did and of the timing belt. I had to tack it with the piece on and the timing cover installed and didn't think of the heat until i was done tacking it up. I'm wondering if you guys think i should get a new belt now even though its new or just leave it. It doesn't look terrible but i just don't know how these timing belts would handle that. I put a picture of the top of the belt to show a comparison for the none effected part of it. I do not take that gamble. They are cheap I say just replace it. ---- '''flatfoot:''' (2016-04-29 12:20:04) I'm with Ozzy on this one. Being an interference motor I'd replace it just for the piece of mind. ---- '''mtherkamp:''' (2016-04-29 14:09:27) Here's another vote for replace. Heat damage like that could let go without warning. Plus if you don't replace it, it will always be on you mind, when is it gonna snap!
