hi guys need some help, i dropped my transmission and its completely off the car, i wanted to flush the gear oil but i noticed that both my filler and drain plug are glued on and i stripped them a bit trying to get them off. should i take it to a specialist/nissan? or is their another safe/efficient way to get the gear oil out and in without having to remove both the filler/ drain. FS5W71C

i believe i also bough gear oil that said its meets gl-4 and gl-5 rating, from the looks of it i should get a gl-4 only oil, but i dont know if others have used gl-4/gl-5 oil. ill update with picks soon, on my other thread too.

I had to torch the upper one to get it open as well as the diff cover's, the bottom one was cake…

if you have a spare socket extension, grind it down so that there is no rounded edge at the tip of the extension. this will allow you to get more of the square part of the extension grabbing the plug. use a long bar. and a torch helps. just let it cool down after torching it. aluminum cracks very easily when its hot and brittle.

is their a proper procedure when torching a drain/filler they both seem to be glued, do i apply the heat around or on the bolt directly, how long etc

i hardly ever used a torch on something like this. nice idea though.

seems like its stuck, was last worked on by nissan like 6 years ago i assumed they used something, the tool i used was slightly bigger( i thought it would do the job) then i kinda took a punch to it after i noticed it being stripped. the drain part seems in good enough shape to try again after using a torch.

they're not glued. the nissan drain plugs have an RTV coating on them. it gets pretty well sealed. you need to heat it up with a mapp torch for about 3 to 5 minutes, and then let it cool down. its not that difficult. its the only way you'll get it out anyway.

yeah the torch did the job for the filler, grinding down a socket extension for the drain side as you read this. now to find that gl-4, was probably just going to go with royal purple or should i just stick to what nissan can offer?
