* Remove the trim from the vehicle (this is not absolutely necessary, but will definitely improve the quality of the job). Wet sand the original finish with 320 grit wet-or-dry paper to smooth the paint edges. Apply an adhesion promoter to the freshly sanded surface. Both etching primer and Bond Aid work, but Bond Aid is better and doesn’t leave a green color behind if scratched.

Allow fifteen minutes for the promoter to cure. Apply a single coat of Duplicolor’s Trim paint (this closely matches the original sheen and color). Let this coat cure 20 minutes, then apply a second, slightly heavier coat to achieve the factory texture.

Let the trim cure overnight in at least 70°F before installing. When replacing, use silicone sealant on the screw threads to prevent rust/corrosion. The finished trim should look like this:

* To prevent flaking damage, avoid spraying the trim with high-pressure water. If flaking occurs, repeat this process to restore the appearance. If it becomes a big problem, you can use automotive grade black vinyl as an alternative.
