== Vintage Zs- Nissans attempt to restore interest in the Z ==

In 1998, To keep Z-car interest alive, Nissan launched a restoration program for which they purchased original 240Zs, professionally restored them, and sold them at dealerships for roughly $24,000 - $28,000. On 10/31/98, Nissan officially ended the Z Store project after only 37 were completed with a total of 40 cars documented.

Three museum-grade restoration shops in the Southern California area were commissioned to perform ground-up restorations on the cars and to bring them to better-than-new condition. The engines, 4 speed manual or 3 speed automatic transmissions, and differentials are remanufactured by specialty shops using new Nissan parts while such items as suspension and other ancillary parts are also as-original but upgraded with more modern materials and technology. Since the cars are literally like new, they carried the same factory guarantee as modern Nissan products. The one drawback is that the demand was so great for these hand-crafted cars that there was a 30-day wait on delivery through the 10 Nissan dealerships that were franchised to sell them.
